Just a speculative concept for Rodan in the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, because honestly if you're gonna put the old boy in the Legendary universe I think he could use a little beefing up and not just the relatively little wings of the classic Rodan. Maybe I'm alone on this but I'd like to see Rodan get a bit more of a dragon build, bigger body so that he looks more able to hold his own against the Big G and maybe the other kaiju in the film. Really looking forward to the reveal soon on the new designs.

This was just a guess on my part as to what Rodan would look like in the film before the trailer finally came out. I'm happy to say the one in the movie looks absolutely perfect.

Giving Rodan a more dragon-build would actually be a really cool approach to take. It'd give his design a strange, arguably otherworldly vibe that just wouldn't make him "just a pterosaur", but keeping those base characteristics intact as to keep the classic feel.

I hope your summary here is the model they use for the character, my only concern would be interference from Toho dictating this and that, but I'm sure they'll strike a good balance. I'm just extra picky about this one because good old Rodan is one of my absolute favorites from the old school.

Well, LP Godzilla is also pretty drastic when you look at the finer details. With how things have been with Shin and the Anime, I think Toho will be lenient in some regard, but I'd imagine they'll still push to make him look and feel like Rodan.

Very nice Rodan design! If this was official I would gladly except it among the other interpretations of Rodan.
I'm pretty confident the designs will be fine. The only ones I have the SMALLEST bit of concern over are Mothra and Ghidorah.
I'm sure they'll look awesome, but I see more room for error in those two than Rodan.

I think you're right about that, though we seem to already have a good idea of what Mothra's gonna look like, but Ghidorah definitely needs character, and Rodan deserves some thought put into the design as one of the Old Guard of Toho. I'd like to hope by the end of summer most of what we want to see will be before our eyes, because I'm chomping at the bit to start on the REAL fanart of the REAL designs already! XD

Yea man, I would really LOVE to see the designs ASAP! I just hope they're good. King Ghidorah's design would really depend on what origin they give him. Is he an alien? Is he a prehistoric monster like in GMK?
Either way, I'm just excited to see basically the same monsters from Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster on the BIG SCREEN. Maybe then, unlike with G14, I'll FEEL like I'm watching a Godzilla movie!
Let me explain, I consider G14 a Godzilla movie, but watching it in the theater, even though I KNEW this was a Godzilla movie, every time I started to FEEL like I was watching one, they'd cut away. Although enough complaints have been made about that, and more importantly, the voice has been heard by Legendary Pictures, so I'm sure that won't happen again. My biggest hopes for what to see in this movie are:
A one on one between Godzilla and Rodan
A Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra battle with Ghidorah.
You give me that, and keep the focus on the fight without constantly cutting back to humans like last time, then the kid inside me will probably say "Oh yeah, I'm watching a Godzilla movie!"

Excellent work! I hope the actual Legendary Rodan will look as cool as this one does, and I hope the film will present him as a worthy foe and/or ally for Godzilla and the others. As a member of the Famous Four and a King Class Kaiju (as I like to call the Legendary Godzilla & company), I feel Rodan deserves better treatment than his recent Toho appearances afforded him, so here's to Legendary Pictures doing him justice next year

Much obliged, good sir, and I concur, much as I love MechaG2 and Final Wars personally the Rodans in both were a little underwhelming, Final Wars mostly just because he had such a bit part. Moving Rodan away from "big bird" to "flying dragony pteranodon" would give him a more imposing presence I feel. I just wanna see him kick some ass again like he did in Ghidorah.
