True story, when I was at college Gamera the Brave had just come out on dvd stateside, so I reserved a dvd player in the student union area and was just watching the film without expecting anyone to join me. A few guys trickled in thinking it would be a cheesy monster flick to poke fun at, but to their surprise (and mine), by the end they were all excited about it and cheering for the underdog turtle to kick Zedus' ass. It was pretty satisfying

I hear that, heck I would have totally been up for more in the "Toto" series, but sadly there's nothing us Westerners can do to influence the Japanese box office

Yeah, this was one of the costumes I saw that first year that really made me think, "Crap, this cosplay stuff looks really awesome, ought to give this a try."
