It's a very unusual monster. And aside from the beautiful ancient human, (a girl with a psychic link with the monster), he is pretty forgettable in the grand scheme of things. It's a stock roar with some unique suit additions to it. Far from my favorite of the new critters that came out of Ultraman Max.
But I like the art though. The pose is not something you typically see. Almost reminds me of the pose that Ultraman does...as he is turning into Ultraman. You know...the punch towards the sky when he is using the beta capsule to become the hero. I'm not sure if that intentional to infer that or not though.

Interesting, thanks for the review.Β Even some of the coolest designs can't help a poor execution, but it always amazed me how some of the WEIRDEST critters got so popular in Ultraman (Pigmon comes to mind).Β It's funny too but I've always felt like my kaiju fandom cred has been to some who I talk to, especially at conventions, less than it should be because of my general lack of exposure to Ultraman.Β I've never even made the time to watch an episode of Ultraseven and I OWN the series!Β Ah life, so hectic, but you completely know what that's like

That is correct!Β I never actually made it this far into the show to see this guy, but from what I saw of the series I really, really enjoyed it, been meaning to get back to it.

Max was the first Ultraman series I got to see, but it's been hard finding good subtitled episodes (even the dvd I bought only had half of its episodes coherently translated, and several of them referred to the title Ultra as 'Superman Max'). Β Still worth it!

Heh. I might no be familiar with him, but i can still vouch for this guy being awesome. His design is epic, and i'm pretty sure he's quite a fearsome kaiju. Definitely a kaiju worth seeing.

Wholeheartedly agree, that and it appears this is phase 2 of the creature, there's another lesser form from what I've gathered, so I'll be curious to see how that plays out whenever I can eventually get back to the show.

One thing I definitely appreciate about some of the Ultra beasts is their "no holds barred" approach to some of the monster designs, it seems that they would often enjoy pushing themselves pretty hard sometimes on coming up with something that really stood out.
