Description
Ok so I'm getting a bit closer with each new reveal to really liking the design. At least there seems to be more than one stage of development for the character present in the new film. This nuclear cancer/meltdown/whatever it is aspect of the new movie reminds me a lot of Burning Godzilla from Destroyah, which isn't a bad thing. The only thing that concerns me now is the possible absence of an enemy. I know we've only had 2 (3 if you count GINO) movies that have had Godzilla not fight an enemy creature and a lot of fans have been pining for a return to those, but I don't know if I would be anywhere near as excited for another solo flick. Here's to more news.Related content

I've never actually followed Creepypastas but I have seen the character, I imagine it would be pretty fitting. If Toho ever does follow up on Shin and keep that continuity going I imagine we might honestly see more horrific monsters thanks to their updated technological tools.

Shin is animated in CGI while everything else is real, but they make him move like a man in a suit. Pretty creepy.

sorry but in my opinion this is to me the worst design idea ever made in the Godzilla franchise since the infamous 1998

Well, I'm not a huge fan thus far but I will say he looks better than Cookie Monster Goji from the Sea Monster film XD That suit was just murder.

True but even though I dislike the design I'll still give the film a watch if the plot and human characters are ok
Like even though Dante in DMC devil may Cry was a bad design but the game play was fun though

the way he looks might explain why he's so pissed off( and i mean 100 times more than usual). also why he's attacking now: he's regenerated enough that he can. but, his open wounds, and zombie-like form makes him more vulnerable. the JSDF now has something to aim for that could really hurt him.

I think it'll be a sequel to Gojira (1954) with this being the original regenerating. And down right PISSED at Japan.

Considering they're going for the horror flick, like the original, another monster would destroy that. And he works best by himself anyway. Depending on how well it does at the box-office, we may get a new timeline.

I don't think Godzilla works best as a stand alone creature, but that's obviously my preference speaking since most of my enjoyment comes from seeing him emerging triumphant over other monsters against all odds, especially when he's faced with the two-pronged trouble of fighting mankind and enemy creatures. But I won't fault Anno if he wants to try for something we've only had (technically) three other times, Godzilla alone without another beast to fight.

Very good. I actually have a theory about his look, remember at the end of the first film he disintegrated, perhaps he's still in the process of reconstituting himself. That's my theory anyways.

I for one....(now I am in NO such thing to ever, EVER be AGAINST the Big G-Killer HIMSELF!! But this though) am NOT really Happy with THIS specific design they DARED to use on the very Monster that basically defined both the words Impossible and (more importantly) Raw Nuclear POWER!! 😠😡

I'm onboard with those who hope this is some sort of a "regeneration" or super battle damage moment and that he grows back to his regular muscular form. I mean no it's not a horrible design say compared to some of those that just cover him in spikes and needles, but it's a little more horror movie leaning than I like in my beloved dino monster.

The design is really appealing, it brings the horror aspect of radiation to life. As for enemy monster, I'm guessing that there isn't going to be one. Shame, but I guess another solo film isn't a bad idea

If this is the official design it's awesome! And the art makes this look even cooler, but the only thing that bothers me is his eyes there kind of... well it actually makes him less scary, if this is the official design for the movie, I hope Toho will improve the eyes.

The design looks kind of derpy in the pictures, his brow is shaped so he looks kind of sad, like a begging puppy, his neck looks like a giraffe and his arms are so tiny, short and small.. If his brow was fixed to look more angry, his arms were fixed and his neck was shortened, I'd like the design a lot more.. In fan art it looks a lot better, nice work

Its beaut..."eyes widen in terror as Gojira comes into full view"...HORRIFYING!!!! O_O
Nice take on Shin-Goji, I look forward to seeing him in action so we can get a better idea of the fully realized design will look, it looks pretty gruesome. The exposed musculature reminds me a bit of the Kobra Venom creations from the Young Justice cartoon. While I'd love to see Godzilla fight another monster in the upcoming film, I do enjoy both the original 1954 Gojira AND The Return of Godzilla/Godzilla 1985, so I'm intrigued to see Godzilla go solo again, especially if they're playing up the horror angle, lots of potential there. And who knows? Maybe they'll have some sort of mecha in the story as well like the Super X or Gotengo.

It's supposed to represent radiation burns and scarring, I think. That's what the creator's originally wanted, but they went with the lumpy scale design instead. That said, I do like the design a little more now. It defintely gives the Big Guy a more frightening and demonic look than he's had in the past, but still makes him look like a victim.

KaijuKid In reply to CitizenKahne [2016-01-06 09:36:06 +0000 UTC]
It's fascinating that they've moved ahead with it at all. Scott "M-11" Field told us a while back that Toho wasn't interested in more films for several reasons, the main ones being that A- the Big Guy's popularity in Japan had dwindled to an all-time low as compared to America and English speaking countries, and B- that the events of their recent tragedies with flooding, quakes and nuclear meltdowns had made everyone hyper sensitive about anything that had to deal with radiation and the nuclear message again, but obviously in the wake of Legendary Godzilla Toho seems way more confident that it's a good time to move ahead again. I don't mind that and in my opinion any new G-Film is a good thing (you never know when your last will be your last), but I'm actually amazed they're going so hard on the horror angle this time, given things. Anno's stuff is pretty emotional/philosophical though, so we'll see how this one stacks the action and the message/emotional angles.

CitizenKahne In reply to KaijuKid [2016-01-06 09:41:43 +0000 UTC]
True and true. For me and a lot of other fans, we're just happy that Godzilla's going back to where it all started. It kind of feels like it's come full circle. We've gone from Nuclear Nightmare that symbolic of the atomic bomb to Raging Monster to Hero of Earth to Anti-Heroic Force of Nature and then back to Nuclear Nightmare. But as for the emotional and philosophical stuff, it's probably a given, seeing as how a good portion of the films had some moral to be learned or ethical discussion.

I'm with you on the zombie thing, I prefer monsters with more personality or animal-like ferocity. It also begs the question of what Toho plans to do with their Godzilla after this one, is he going to remain this horrific deformed thing for several films or are they going to pull another Millennium Era and try to shake the formula up with each film? I for one am kinda hoping for stronger continuity from movie to movie.

Kaiju-Guru86 In reply to KaijuKid [2016-01-06 09:01:33 +0000 UTC]
I'd like stronger continuity, myself (one of the reasons I like the Heisei films, flaws and all); I guess it all depends on how well it does. GAH! Wish Toho would give us more to go on; felt like we had more intel back during the Millennium Era, but that could just as easily be because of the frequency we were getting films. I'm hoping the deformed thing gets phased out over time if they make sequels, especially if he's fighting other kaiju (just don't see it working out without making his opponents look even weaker).

KaijuKid In reply to Falljoydelux [2016-01-17 14:33:17 +0000 UTC]
Agreed, there's several G-Films that I honestly believe would have been helped if Godzilla had come closer to being in roughly 50% of the screen time instead of the 10-30% that he often gets. I mean yeah, you don't want to overexpose the treat of the experience, but the last half of most of the films can surely showcase the title creature more.
