Description
I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon, since everyone ELSE seems to be doing itThe early reports of the new Godzilla design described it as "fat." A crude description at best, but when I saw the blurry photograph at the top-right there, I imagined that the design direction wasn't so much corpulent as it was "thick."
"Monstrously thick" were the words that came to mind. A mountain of a creature, unbelievably powerful and undeniably unstoppable. I approached this hypothetical design in a similar fashion to a paleontologist's anatomical reconstructions - using the little information I had, not to mention the previous works of as inspiration, this is what I'm anticipating to be lurking behind all that blurr and smoke.

This is the best G2014 concept I've seen. Nice work!

I would HIGHLY approve of this design. It might be one of my favorites right next to "Ghost" Godzilla (aka. GMK)!

Excellent work! I hope the actual design is close to this (muscular and powerful), I'd hate to see the new Legendary Godzilla film dragged down by an overweight Goji design (I have SO MUCH HOPE that this film will really appeal to kaiju fans and avoid the mistakes Tristar made).

Magnificent!
I have to agree with you there. The earlier designs used in the movies were what we got used to over the years, but with the ones that Big G retakes his crown and shows why he is the king of all monsters ... the newer ones which he is truly a force of nature and not just a force for good. Like a king, he inflicts his domination on the Earth by showing the upstarts his power. Bulking him up is the best way to make him even greater ... as you demonstrate.

From what I've seen of the concept artwork, and this is really accurate to the design. I kinda like it, it's old-school but fresh at the same time breathing new life into it without going all Dino zilla again (1998).

To be fair, Zilla was a great design. I thought it was a very fresh take on the Godzilla design. It was how the film handled him that made the movie bomb. Zilla was capable of great destruction, was a very fast swimmer, and was even smart to a degree, playing dead to fool the helicopters and even dodging a sub missile at the last second so it would hit another sub. Instead of showing off these strengths even more, they make him run away from the military every time he sees them and do a cop out death at the end. So again to be fair, the design was great, the handling was not.

Yeah she was a clever girl (smirk) (giving birth to all those eggs I gotta assume it was a female). But Zilla and Godzilla are just two different animals I didn't hate the movie I own it on VHS (shows how old I am/movie is), it just wasn't as good as Godzilla as a whole.

Well the American Godzilla was apparently a iguana (?) that was severely mutated from nuclear radiation and could change his/her sex in a like the dinosaurs eventually did in Jurassic Park.

I suppose it would be fair to call Godzilla the "Dracula" of kaiju. One of those examples of the species that's eternally interpreted and idolized in varying flavors, considered the ultimate specimen of their genre, ever imitated but never duplicated. Well, clones and robots notwithstanding.
Great picture.
