I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon, since everyone ELSE seems to be doing it
Not to mention it makes a nice New Years treat!The early reports of the new Godzilla design described it as "fat." A crude description at best, but when I saw the blurry photograph at the top-right there, I imagined that the design direction wasn't so much corpulent as it was "thick."
"Monstrously thick" were the words that came to mind. A mountain of a creature, unbelievably powerful and undeniably unstoppable. I approached this hypothetical design in a similar fashion to a paleontologist's anatomical reconstructions - using the little information I had, not to mention the previous works of as inspiration, this is what I'm anticipating to be lurking behind all that blurr and smoke.

Hey, that would be a good idea. A more realistic take on the beast would probably involve something insanely heavily built, with lots of weight and muscle near the lower body to support it... ah, Hell, you summed it up perfectlyin the description. Well done!

I'd always pictured Godzilla as a little pudgy. He's a giant radiated dinosaur. Big things like that have to eat a lot. ( Odd you never see him eat in the movies unless you count the Tristar movie. I kind of just noticed that )
It's kind of cute that he has a belly anyway. Since the costumes in the Toho movies were padded monstrosities of rubber.
A more thin Godzilla doesn't seem right to me. I can't remember if the new godzilla is a suit or CGI though. Hm.

The "pudgyness" has always been present, but it was somewhat pronounced in GMK as Godzilla's design for that film was intended to have this certain "flow" to it to lend credence to it.

Wouldn't mind seeing this as the legit design! The legs aren't too dinosaurian to make him look unrecognizable and his posture slightly resembles the GMK Godzilla.

I like this pic a lot, but the meeting point at the neck and the chest has a weird seam that irks me a little, it makes godzilla's head look like a helmet a little.

Pretty badass design! I'm trying to imagine a tokusatsu version of your concept art, and just eye-balling it would have the suit performer's head having a line-of-sight right out of the mouth... Beats having eye-holes in the neck.

Well, an interesting design, impressive speculation, though I'm not sure about all the spikes, what makes you think those will be there? Just Artistic licence? Regardless if this is close to the final Legendary design or not, it is still a very impressive design for Godzilla. I am quite impressed.

Most of the images I've seen, or rather versions of this image, aren't very clear. The one on this picture, whether you realize it or not, is clear enough that I can make out a few features. Especially with what direction his face is looking at as he roars. If you look closely enough, you can see he's turning towards you, as you can make out his teeth on the left side of his face (And I mean his left). Not to mention you can almost make out skin detail, which looks close to what a traditional Godzilla's skin is. Along with some other features like his eyebrows. Well, the ridges, his eye isn't distinct though. Too dark still, but yeah.
Your vision is really good though, this design looks like a nice re-imagining of Godzilla, keeping what works, introducing "realistic" elements, and making it better. Much the same way that the Millennium Godzilla did. And you're right to think in terms of being thick, not fat, while I was thinking it'd be more vertical leaning, thickness really seems to work while still maintaining that upright posture we've come to know the Monster King for. The spikey protrusions, while cool, probably won't be on the actual design. But hey, it'll be great if they are. Just have to wait and see.
