Louis is a corporal ? Those three golden chevrons on his upper sleeve look like modern-day French Army chief sergeant (sergent chef) insignia, though ...

The corporal insignia are the two aurore straps piped red just above the cuff. What you are referring to are the so called chevrons d'ancienneté, where every chevron indicates 8 years (or one full-time enlistment period) of service in the army. The chevrons d'ancienneté were created in 1771, but before 1789 a veteran of 24 years of service that still wanted to stay in the ranks, instead of a third chevron, received a medal - the so called médaillon des deux epées.

My language skills eh? hrm, boy it sure is a messed up thing. In public, when i have to interact with foreigners I exclusively use English - not because I think it's so great, but simply because it's the language I feel the most confident about. I love the sound of the French language and I've even tried to learn it once, but the differences between written French and French pronunciation are too big for my modest mind to comprehend. All in all, i can't speak nearly a thing in French. However, my admiration for French uniforms between 1691-1815 makes me buy loads of books and magazines from France - I understand pretty well the written French and I'm able to communicate that way. My private correspondence with the fellow members of the "la Sabretache" society (which i'm in as well) is entirely in French, though preparing a reply and checking it make take some time depending on the topic. And to be frank, I still think that my emails ain't that great, but I do my best.

Nice legend does say Napoleon saw this multiple times in the capitol and it inspired him to form the young guard = very enthusiastic/patriotic young men who wanted to give France their all.

Now I know who your style of painting reminds me of. JOB - Jacques Onfroy Bienville - one of the greats in Napoleonic illustration!

Oh I know the guy! (well, his pics, but now thanks to you i know the chap's name, thanks!) he's damn good I admit, though i prefer a different type of shading than his clear, disctinct lines of colour :3 Other people i find a great influence for my stuff are Patrice Courcelle, and first of all Lucien Rousselot Anyways you really made me a huge honour comparing me to artists so great!

Courcelle is a great guy - I think, though I'm not sure, that he has one of my Napoleonic comic books I did back in the 90s - one of my friends bought a couple and Patrice ended up getting one. XD
Rousselot is a great artist, to be sure - the way he handled horses was great.
I've been so out of the Napoleonic loop - near on 10 years now. There are days I miss it - I used to be more active on the forums but it's always Waterloo-Marengo-Waterloo and I got tired of it.

True that, I wish I could draw my horses as Rousselot did! Stil, I can't wait when they finally gonna publish his famous Uniforms of the French Army in Polish! *drools*
I've always wanted to be a napoleonic reenactor, though it's a costy thing around here, also, in my region there ain't many groups to join, and creating one from scratch is a thing to serious to be done without any significant experience I think. And napoleonic groups are bajillion of Duchy of Warsaw units lol

Awesome - If I was more in the loop I could probably list the ones being translated into Polish, but it's been too long.
It's very very costly, even here in the states. There are quite a few groups in Europe, but regionally I'm not so sure.

Here's an old list - I don't know how updated it is.

Well, it doesn't mention any of the polish groups
Btw, it causes my curiosity, how can one become a certain napoleonic age character reenactor. I mean, how people agree that one guy can be Boney, the other Ney etc etc

I saw that! It's probably not up to date.
I dunno - I know that they used to draw lots, but I think it's who has the most cash for the uniform and has been in the re-enacting the longest. I know they look down on my husband (the Luftwaffe reenactors here, but they're mostly idiots anyway) for being an Oberst, but he was given the title by Rommel's grand-daughter and okayed by a LW officer that we met, so they really have nothing to say to him about it.
