Description War has definitely lost it's "colours" once these guys disappeared.

a captain of the famous 7th Hussar Regiment, forming part of the well known "Hellish Brigade" led by not less famous general Lasalle.

Captain Lazare Bernard Foucheur, another drunk, brawler and womaniser in the game

The background's crappy as usual, since at some point i've lost patience with this piece.

pencil sketch + digitally added colours (PS), no tablet, just da mouse.

mmm, that moustache

Very similar to the 11th's uniform in the 1840's onwards.

Was this a French uniform? What years did this Regiment stay in service from?

Well, hussar uniforms in general are quite similar to each other, however I always remembered the British busbies (by 11th hussars you mean the unit that formed the light brigade at balaclava?)to be taller that the French napoleonic ones.

And yes, it's a French napoleonic unit, formed in 1792. According to French wiki the unit was disbanded in 1959, but I don't feel competent to confirm or deny it. I'm pretty much sure there was a 7th hussar regiment during the Bourbon Restoration and it's very likely it continued to serve during the II French Empire as well.

Lord Cardigan's Regiment, yes. Wore red breeches that were unique to the British cavalry because they were Prince Albert's escort to the Palace when he first landed in England and the red was the colour of his House. The main difference is of course that most British Hussars wore dark blue dolmans and pelisses.

Oh yeah, BBY. Gotta love them Hussars. Crazy little mofos on crazy little horses.

Ever read Marbot? Great stuff.

True that!

Ahaha, nope, but i see you recommend it, so it lands in my list right after I finish with hussar de la Rocca's memoirs as well as Coignet's and Blaze's from the Imperial Guard

I haven't had the chance to read Coignet yet, but Marbot always makes me giggle.

I have my Chasseur a Cheval blade sitting right next to my computer, but my horse and I retired from re-enacting. In practice he got a bit too hot and thought it was real. XD Crazy horse.

Oh so I can count on many nice soldierly anecdotes in Marbot's memoirs? Because the thing I dislike the most about some officer's and general's memoirs is their continuous babbling which division of which corps took what damn village from the enemy That's such a loss for a period like this, full of brawlers and drunkards or other sly fellows in the army

OH GOD yes. Like the time Massena taught them how to descend a mountain back in 1797 - sliding down on their butts. The Jerry-Springer-esque fights between Oudinot and Saint-Cyr at Smolnesk in 1812... I was laughing through most of it, because it is so light hearted and wonderfully in-depth about the personalities and the hijinks - not so much "We took division 3 to X spot, farted around, shot some Autre-cheins and marched to Y spot and took a break."

*shaves the moustache off* There, we see improvement already. . So first and foremost, very nicely done. Strong colours with a detailed uniform in tow (I did not go and count anything on it, so don't worry.).

The fuzz on the busby is very well done and looks as if it were soft to touch, but the feather plume could've been made more fluffy feathery? At the moment it stands in stark contrast to the headgear, just because that one looks like it had so much more work on it!

And, maybe, but not necessarily, if you wanted to have light come strong from one side, you might want to shade it darker on the other side, to give it a greater contrast and more of a 3D feeling. All in all though, very well done, also the leathery feel on the boots! (The man must've worked days to make it shine so well!)

P.S.: But the moustache must go!

NOT THE MOUSTACHE, Lazare would sooner die than allow to shave it off! you heartless woman!

as for the COLBACK vs plume, nope it took actually the same time to colour both...XD i've simply used a special brush resembling fur for the COLBACK

Mnie się podoba.

Co do tła, spróbuj umieścić huzara na jakiejś równinie ( trawa+coś w tle + niebo ), w moich pracach to zazwyczaj przechodzi bez większego szemrania.
