I think it would be interesting to create a Turkish-looking Imperial militiaman, wearing the gray uniform and all, but with baggy trousers, the turban and cockade, etc.

Aye sir! We could do that... though I would opt for militiamen wearing hunting frocks and coveralls over regimental uniforms. I'm sure there'd be a fight if the coats were red or if they used a French rank system. So I'd just use colored hunting frocks with a secondary color for the trim. We could adopt this as our "Devian" look, and its practical too.
Cocked hats or shakos?
Coveralls? Boots? Gaiters? Trousers?
How to denote rank... epauletes? Sashes? Shoulder knots or cords? Chevrons?
So many ideas... I love designing uniforms.
We can't use black, green, or dark gray... that's Imperial. If we still used regimental frocks... they couldn't be red with white... British... couldn't use blue with white... nor blue with red... that's French and American.
What if we used Earth tones... like dusty browns and olive drabs? Its different and it blends in.

Earth colours? I fully support brown for frock coats, and it could fit with yellow or red facings
as for shakos...well...I dunno...I'd support either bicorns or some kind of leather helmets decorated with plumes, not simple shakos however
something like this perhaps? (number 4, though we'd have to add a metal plate and change the plume colour [link]
and of course gaiters! xD
as for ranks system, well both French and British used fabric pieces sewn to the arm for lower ranks while epaulettes were reserved for NCO's and high ranked officers...so we'd only need to think up a design that's different than French diagonal and horizontal stripes and British arrow-like chevrons

Perhaps the first could be for parade dress and such while the latter is worn for longer campaigns and battle? The militiaman in the blue frontiersman frock and red trim is my idea on colored garb to denote rank and unit.
What if we used brown coats, olive drab waistcoats and breeches (or trousers, coveralls, whatever) and faced the uniforms with gray? This would really blend in with the Devian landscape and woods.
