Description
Okay, last upload for today! xDDI got this boy from my design trade with *Nekc and I already adore him! It's nice to have a character that's not feline for once.
I have a ton of OC references to finish, so I'll most likely be spending most of my Christmas break doing them plus working on my comics.

Not bad! Is this your first attempt at drawing a hoofed animal? I always have difficulty with hooves since I'm so used to drawing paws.

Yup! It is actually. I'm mainly used to drawing felines/canines too so I used a ton of photo refs for this. Deer aren't that hard though. I agree their hooves are the hardest part though! xD

I just realized something. White-tailed deer usually stick their tails up like that only when they are frightened or spooked. You may have stuck it up to show the markings though. Just thought I should say that because he looks pretty chill.

Yup, I only did that to show off markings! You couldn't really see how the white and gray were drawn if I had his tail down like it should be.

you actualy drew him as a 4 year old......the points on the antlers give away a deer's age.

KaiserTiger In reply to Apothocareon [2011-12-17 20:22:18 +0000 UTC]
Actually the number of points on a buck's antlers are determined by genetics, not really age. The shape of the face, size of the neck, and shape of the back/belly are much better to guess a deer's age by though since they go through noticeable changes as time goes by. A 4 year old buck's stomach line is pretty flat where a 3 year old's curves up just a bit near the rear legs. A 4 year old's neck is a bit more filled out too.
Haha, sorry! I know a lot of people who hunt so I've picked up a few tips on how to field judge deer. xD

humm.......then how come two year old dear always only have 2 points?

KaiserTiger In reply to Apothocareon [2011-12-20 01:00:40 +0000 UTC]
Like I said, it's genetics. Some deer develop antlers a lot quicker than others because of their genes and overall body condition. It's possible for a 3 year old to have a rack similar to a 4-5 year if it's kept in good condition and it has genes coding for good antler size.

LOL! You would, wouldn't you? xDD
But thanks and yup, something like this but maybe with more natural browns instead of light grays. I don't really mind as long as it's a whitetail though!

I would lol i could be all like "Hows pokemon?" then i would laugh at imaginging the confusion on your face. lolol i think that would be amazing. Ash is such a fun name.
Sure thing gonna practice drawing deer for a bit though. such different anatomy from a cat or dog D:

xDD You'd get a lot of "...whut?" replies for sure! It is though! I always wanted to name one of my cats 'Ash' but I've never had one that seemed to fit the name.
Haha, definitely! I looked at a ton of irl photos before I drew Ash here. They help tons. <3 It's nice to branch out and draw different animals every once and awhile too!

Yup, totally!
I've never been good at drawing people. xD I can reference a photo and do alright and I did a few awesome pieces using the models we had at school, but as soon as I try to draw a human unreffed, it's terrible! D:
