Description Around 2004 I was in the middle of my "Stargate SG-1" obsession phase. Among other things, I was fascinated by the design of the Goa'uld symbiotes - this exotic mixture of snake and fish with its odd mouth. I liked how they looked menacing and at the same time kinda cute (at least, to my family and me ).

So I decided to make a life-size plush of the adolescent / "fresh out of its Jaffa" form. I like this form best because of the dark color and red eyes which are absent from the infants or the adults that have been inside their host for a long time.
By the way, my plushie identifies as a Tok'ra - I figured that would be a safer choice than inviting a wannabe god into my home. Her name is Li'jip.

For reference, I mainly used the episode 3x01 "Into The Fire" which shows such a symbiote in great detail during a longer scene. I fondly remember sitting in the back of my music class while sketching the pattern and calculating the circumference needed for the body. Also, I can still see myself digging through the scrap boxes in a small local fabric shop which happened to have just the perfect materials for me.
Ahh, good times.

The velvet used to be a deep emerald green which sadly faded to a grayish shade of olive over a couple of years. But on the bright side, it actually looks closer to the real thing that way. Back when I found it, I also instantly loved the creased texture of the pile which reminded me of reptile scales.
The inside of the mouth is just the underside of the velvet, while the large fins are made from a silvery fabric which appears to be polyester.
I used red plastic beads for the eyes, and the teeth are made from polymer clay.

Very cool! I know these creatures since I was into "Stargate SG-1" myself! I used to bring a Beanie Baby Eel to conventions to represent a Goa'uld! His name is "Morrie".
I got to show him to Cliff Simon at a convention, he held him for a minute to observe him. Then, I showed him to Michael Shanks, and Michael said "What is that?!" Another fan said, "You didn't know they made
Beanie Baby symbiotes".Michael said, "I'm not sure I want to know that". Anyway, your Goa'uld looks much more real, so congratulations on great work! And I like that you made it a Tok'ra.
The other handmade Tok'ra I ever saw was made by one of the fans, she named it "Selmak" and had Website devoted to Selmak.

To help you picture the Beanie Baby at the convention, we were at a table where the actors would drop by and sit for a couple minutes to meet fans. I had the Beanie sitting on my lap, and brought him over the table when Michael arrived. The other fans had met my Beanie earlier. Cliff (aka Ba'al) said "He looks like an Eel" and I said yes he is. Cliff also pretended to re-enact the scene where the Goa'uld Lords were eating some other symbiotes (in the "Summit" episode).

Yes he did pretend he would, but handed Morrie back to my safekeeping! Cliff is a fun guest, his stories about living in South Africa were very interesting.
Ba'al became a fun character when he had to interact with SG-1, like when he had to work with them to escape a planet full of traps.
If you ever saw the movie "Continuum" (TV movie for SG-1), Ba'al was eventually freed from his Goa'uld, by the Tok'ra.
So he would be able to be his human self again.

The convention had a Fan-made video of Ba'al & all his clones. The music used was "The Real Slim Shady" by Eminem,it was super funny!
