Description
So it's progressing slowly...I'm going to have to go over the lumograph with normal graphite so it looks uniformly shiny
Otherwise the digital one will end up looking neater than the real one!

Are these squares the grid? I never used them, but they looks very precise here! Wasn't it hard to make them like this

No, not hard, I print the reference photo with the grid and then mark up my paper using the reference photo doing marks top, bottom, left and right and then using a rule to connect the marks
Yeh I use Gimp (or you could use Photoshop) and then go 'show grid' and set the grid how I want it...then just draw over the grid with the pencil tool to give me the lines

ANd does it make significantly easier to get the proportions right

It's just much easier to judge things on a smaller scale as opposed to judging proportions on a blank canvas

I always have troubles with making the hair perfect, but luckily currently I'm drawing a picture with very little hair in it, because there is a pretty scarf-thing on the head!

The right side of his face is looking great (our left). Seems like the right (our left) side of his nose needs to be a bit darker though. But I'm sure you knew that already
