It should be self-explanitory...I tried to cover all the basics...hope this helps at least a few of you! ^__^
If you really notice something wrong, please tell me. It would be a shame to make a tutorial for anatomy...that's all wrong. So please tell me.
This took a little while for little results--I worked from 11pm to 1:30am last night and then for another hour or so today.
These two sources, [link] and [link] were invaluable, as well as random searches on google image search for birds.
Oh, one more thing I have to say: I HATE the adobe photoshop CS text tool XDD. It's so frustrating
Please do comment on this. Even though it's a tutorial, I spent time on it and I would love to hear your thoughts on it ^__^.
Tutorial is © to me. No stealing this exact tutorial, although you MAY learn from it. ^_^ Also, don't make money with my tutorial...because that wouldn't be very fair, now would it? (you may use it to learn and then EVENTUALLY gain money from your knowledge

Whoa! This is really helpful. Thank you so much for making this! I've been having trouble with folded feathered wings for years. The only thing more one could ask for is the feathered wing in a curved position, where part of the wing obscures another. I can't think of any other way to describe it.

Very helpful. I was looking for a tutorial to show me how to possibly draw wings on horses, and this works nicely. Of course I left out quite a few feathers to match the style of the horse better but I still like how it turned out.

Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorial!! I've always wanted to be able to draw wings better, but haven't really been able to find anything to help me improve. Your tutorial is so amazing! It made something as complicated as feathers and wing structures very simple and easy to draw. I can't thank you enough!!

oh yea this is great very great, not much i can say beyond that, but if by chance u care i'll just add a couple trick/shortcuts iv come up w/ over time: firstly your "tertial" section i just kinda fill in w/ lines of varying length and brightness that run parallel w/ the bones, the other things are less tricks and more just bits of info, first is somthing that really irritates me - making winged people whos wings come out of there shoulders - that doesnt work the wings have to start below the shoulder blades otherwise the person couldnt have correctly working arms, also um shoot i had a good thing for this oh well anyhow im glad to know im not the only person who contorts their arms to figure out how to position the wings they draw and im sry fer going on and on i know its annoying er is it annoying if i type it or is that only when im talking o right um yea thats it oh and fave-ing

oh this is great um im not done reading yet but as soon as i saw that u gave the names of the dif sections i had te compliment u, u know ur stuff ... plus its just plain fun to look at many diferent styles and attach ur fave parts from each and incorpeate them into ur own style

I really found this tutorial to be useful n_n
I have been able to draw wings for quite some time now, but only anathomically correct ones, if even that xD
Now, thanks to your tutorial, I have gotten an extra clue of how to draw the feathers as well xD
After all, feathers are the most important part of a wing xD

wow i have been doing research on bird wings for days and this is by far the most concise explanation on wings i have come across. the diagrams are especially helpful because no book or website had ever mentioned how a wing bends and folds. anyway, thanks so much!
ps. one thing i learned from my research is that different birds have different numbers of flight feathers. primary fight feathers range from about 9-11 and secondaries go from 6-24. songbirds have 9-10 primaries, 9 secondaries. waterfowl have 10 primaries and 15-24 secondaries. hawks, eagles, and falcons have 10 primaries and 11-18 secondaries. anyway you probably knew all that. thanks again.

Oh, I actually didn't know those numbers!! I had counted on a picture I had of an eagle's wing and I got the 10 and 15 . *saves your info to computer* Thanks a lot!!
