Description Wellll....I've never seen a gryphon/griffin tutorial, soI thought I'd make one. Hope it helps at least a few people out there!

Step-by-step:

1: Make a circle for the head, a circle for the torso, and a circle for the bottom. Connect them all with a line, then put little circles where the joints connect (the legs). Also, add a line for the tail.

2: Draw a circle for the "elbow," then one for the "wrist," then one for the paw. Connect them all. Do the same for the back leg, only with a knee instead of an elbow and an ankle instead of a wrist (animals have very similar anatomy to us, except their knee bends the other way! Except for elephants ). Then add the start of the wing. Use your own arm for reference--believe me, it works. Look at my dragon wing tutorial, [link] for more info on that.

3: The head!! Well, that's hard to explain how to draw. Look at pictures of eagles and at my step #7 for more. Don't worry, you can do it!

4: Wow, it looks like a gryphon now! All I did was add "muscle." The lines were the "bones." Just add the lines a little bit away from the bones to get the muscle. You choose the width depending on how much you want! I also added a tuft to the tail .

5: I added the wing! A wing has 4 parts--the smaller feathers, the bigger feathers, even bigger ones, and then the huge primaries. I'm planning on adding a wing drawing tutorial for birds someday, so I'll explain it better there. Until then, look at eagle's wings for reference!

6: I just erased the bones and added feathers to the wings and paws to the feet. And there we go!

7: Okay, here's my tutorial for a gryphon's head because a lot of people have been telling me that they like the way I do bird faces. So, obviously, they're just like an eagle's head except for more thickly built with more stocky feathers. The ears go almost directly behind the huge eyes and that makes a happy gryphon! Ears can be anything you want; feather tufts and cat ears are the most common types. For beaks, make them ALWAYS raptor beaks, unless, of course, you're doing a parrot gryphon or something. Make note of all my arrowed things on my doodle of a gryphon head up there for more.

All this and my style is copyright to me. You may use it to practice, but not to make money!! Hope this helps!

Oh, and also, gryphons can have talons instead of lions legs in the front. I guess this could also be used as a tutorial for eyries on neopets.

Oh, and just because this is a tutorial doesn't mean you shouldn't comment... I comments, remember that . If you draw anything from this, tell me!

Thank you, but some gryphons have talons on the upper body instead of the forepaws! So the next time I draw a gryphon, this will come in handy!

I cant explain how much the construction lines alone helped me. Just by looking at the way you plan out the drawing I got done more in 20 minutes than I had in the past month.

The head is really good, the only thing i'd suggest work on is the limb and wing anatomy. Otherwise, I think this will help a lot of people out

Nice tutorial, but the proportions of the creature are a little off. try Sketching out the whole body before detailing rather than working from circles and then detailing from there on in. Hope that helps!

What works best for me is just following the lion anatomy, only putting in the talons instead of paws. Like what I did here: [link] . Or you could start higher up like I did here: [link] . Does that help?
