Another "How I Color My Illustrations" post!
This time with Ornstein and Smough.
But it pretty much goes over how I color in recent times... it's still very similar, just more refined.
And this time with Paint Tool Sai. ♥
Go see the final illustration here~
Enjoy!

Not to detract on the picture, because it's impressive as hell and far better than anything I can do, and artistic license and what not, but just a little note; Ornstein's headpiece is meant to be a lion. That's also why he has the Leo ring.

Ummm...I know his helm is based on a lion? XD
What do you take me for? An artist that draws fanart of games they don't actually play?
Hehehe... but I digress...
Plus, I only work from references? Like these ! These shots are what I used when I initially worked on this illustration.
[until I took my OWN screenshots in a brighter easier-to-see location~]
So what I see is what I draw. If it doesn't *look* like Ornstein's helmet then... erhm, whoops? Hehehe...

No, I just meant his helmet looks a bit more dragonlike in this image, which would be understandable, considering his name.

I am probably an unwashed pleb, because I like Step 3 the most

Thankies! And sadly so do I, Hahahha!
I like simplistic illustrations sometimes.
But it was requested to see my full process of colored illustrations.

This is awesome and very informative. Hell, even your initial pencil sketch is awesome. I've seen some tutorials where the first sketch is nothing but scribbles and messiness. Yours is neat and smooth.

Thankee~ And actually, this is just a how I COLOR walkthrough... it's not how I do my lines. Mine start out incredibly scribbly too. Even more than others. ^w^;;
I actually posted a sample picture taken w/ my cell phone the day I was working on it, you can see that here .
You can essentially see how my rough lines are in Smough - I hadn't worked on him yet in that photo.

Lol, love the sticky note XD
It's still better than some others I've seen, though and a heck a lot better than mine. Like I said it's hard for me to do continuous lines so I end up a bunch.

Oh sweet, so you even add a bit of value to your lines before you even begin rendering with the colors? Neeeeat

BEFORE, not after is the key for me.
I prefer it that way so I don't start to mess too much with those colors so I don't do too much tweaking. I hate tweaking... >m<;;
