Description Sheet 2: fav.me/d4ev4jq
Here's the first sheet of my other adoptable creatures I made around the same time I made the Spring Hares (which many are still open if you're still interested, they are now available for points as well)

A long time ago, like when I was still in elementary school or middle school, I made a sketch of something similar to these I dubbed 'mudpuppy' after I learned of the wonderful existence (and nickname) of axolotls, which I decided to bring back and create adoptables of them. Most of my inspiration came from them, but with these I made them a bit more like a mix between an axolotl, fish, and otter.

A little about Mudpuppies: As their name implies, they love the mud, and spend most of their time in or near fresh bodies of water. They can be a bit slow on land, but they are natural born swimmers and can out-swim many predator species. They can be both extremely social, living in family groups, or be loners; depending on their personality. They highly prefer fresh water to salt water, and almost never go to the ocean. Their favorite habitats are rivers, creeks, lakes, or swamps, with plenty of muddy banks to lay on and shady trees to keep them cool. They can breathe both air, having lungs, and water. Their gills are the ear-like structures on the side on their heads. Their ears are actually behind the gills, but are small like an otter's and hardly noticeable. Their favorite food is fish, but also eat aquatic plants or fruit.

Draw to adopt, no 5 minute doodles please, I want to see that you'll take care of them <3

I really like these designs, so I hope they will all get good homes!

Rules for adopting:
1) No character hoarders (meaning those who adopt almost everything they see and never draw them again, if at all)
2) You may add accessories or slightly alter the design if you wish, but nothing too extreme please. The design should still be recognizable.
3) No re-selling or obviously claiming the design as your own. If you no longer wish to keep the character for any reason, let me know, and I will place it back up for adoption.
4) You can try out for more than 1, but can only win one, unless no one tries out for either, or the other person(s) wants to let you have it.

Thanks for the interest! However, I have a few suggestions: The colors are a bit off in the design, but it may be due to limited marker colors? The colors in the design lean more towards a peach or beige-like color, rather than yellow, and the blue is lighter and more similar to a teal/turquoise. If it's due to a limit in colors, here's two options: Would you like to either fix up the colors, or would you rather keep the darker blue/yellow combination? It wouldn't be the exact adoptable on the sheet anymore, but it would mean you don't have to stick with the color combination I designed here. Regardless, I'll allow you to adopt a mudpuppy, I just need to know what you decide. :3

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-25 22:10:43 +0000 UTC]

It was due to lack of markers Heh. I wish I had the right colors, or else I would gladly keep your design. I love the colors you used, it's just I don't have them unfortunately. ^^ But yay, I'm glad I can adopt the mudpuppy. So cute I think I'll keep the colors I used, though. At least until I get more markers?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-25 22:32:14 +0000 UTC]

I know how that is, limited traditional colors is so frustrating, and it's already hard enough to get colors the same with traditional as digital. x.x
And sounds good~ I just wanted to make sure you'd be able to re-do the design with the colors you have now. I'd hate having a character I couldn't get the design right merely because of color limitations. :c
I put you down as a custom design, that way someone else can adopt #1, but you can keep the mudpuppy you drew.

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-25 22:53:02 +0000 UTC]

I know, haha. I have that problem a lot, so I stick to just sketches. I rarely color.
And yeah I know, haha. Thank you! That sounds great ^-^
I really appreciate it, I honestly figured I'd be too late, haha.

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-25 23:00:14 +0000 UTC]

Maybe you should save up for some more colors or a tablet or something when you can, they're worth it. c:
No problem
They usually don't get adopted out very quickly haha. I actually like how a bunch of the designs came out myself, but I can't keep all of them due to having so many other characters, so I'm happy for anyone that comes along and wants to give them a home.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-25 23:05:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm thinking about a tablet. It's just, I don't know if I'm good enough of an artist to put the money into one. Not to mention, I'd want Photoshop, and not use the program they come with. Like the Bamboo tablets use SketchBook or something.
^-^ They're adorable, haha. I've never seen a mudpuppy on here before, but you did a wonderful job with all of them, on both sheets.
I thought about making some adoptables for points at one point, I just never got around to it. especially since I'm still going with traditional art.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-25 23:23:28 +0000 UTC]

Well there's always room for improvement, we can always get better, that's what being an artist is all about.
And actually, I got a Bamboo Create and it came with Photoshop Elements and Corel. o:
Aww, thank you :'D
And doing adoptables can be pretty hard, I love designing things, so I love making adoptables the same, but getting people to adopt them can be quite difficult at times...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-25 23:37:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, very true. ^^ Personally, I think I've improved a lot since a few years ago. Haha.
Oh, really? Well then, I may look into it. ^-^
You're welcome
Yeah, it seems like it. It'd be even harder in traditional, just trying to get the lineart exactly the same, etc. Depending on how many you make, and of course all the different colors. Digital art always looks better to me, well ... you know. Haha. But I'm surprised these didn't get adopted immediately o-o I wish I'd have found this earlier haha. I saw it in AcceptAllArt group, or whatever the name is.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-26 00:18:51 +0000 UTC]

Good luck if you decide to get one ^^
Yeah, if I were doing traditional adoptables I wouldn't even try to get them exactly the same xD Digital art can be a lifesaver for things like that though. I like both traditional and digital and can't choose one over the other, because they both have pros and cons.
And yeah, that was the group that requested it. Don't know exactly why though, I would have preferred a group that accepts all art to request an actual serious picture I did rather than a bunch of adoptables, but usually I just hit yes to any groups requesting art in the gallery, unless it really has nothing to do with the picture. I think I've really only had to deny one so far. Don't remember what group it was though... o-o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-26 02:28:24 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! ^^
Exactly, haha. Some of the digital art I see on here is just breathtaking, so is some of the tradish. But you just have so many more options it seems with digital.
I had no clue they actually requested stuff o-o huh. Well that's how I found them, haha. But yeah, I get what you mean.
o-o Lol, well that's pretty cool getting requests like that. ^-^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-26 02:55:31 +0000 UTC]

No problem
Indeed, but there's certain things with traditional that's easier as well, especially with paints.
I didn't even know the group existed before they showed up in my inbox with the request to submit the mudpuppy sheet to the gallery xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-26 03:15:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, very true. I'm not too good with paints haha.
I actually requested to be in it. But the group is odd, it said you could submit two works every week but I submitted one like 2 weeks ago and when I tried again it said only one every 365 days... .___.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-26 03:25:28 +0000 UTC]

Neither am I, but then again, I haven't had much practice. xD The way I've seen Bob Ross use oil paints makes grasses and trees look easy. >__> ...I want to learn how to use oils
That is odd... Maybe you should note the group about it, they may have made a mistake in the settings to manage members... Took me a little bit to figure out how to do everything right in some of the groups I'm a co-founder/contributor in. I'm not a member of the acceptallart group though, so I don't know anything about the group or who runs it.

I honestly have no clue who that is. Hahah....
But yes, oils seem hard! Haha. I like watercolors and acrylics
And yeah maybe I'll note them later. o-o

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-26 20:30:14 +0000 UTC]

He was an amazing painter that could make anything seem easy, here's his wiki page -> [link] You should try to watch The Joy of Painting sometime, it's really inspiring to watch ;u;
Every time I try acrylics, they're so painful to get to stick to the canvas I have, I get so frustrated with them haha. I think I need a smoother kind of paper/canvas to use, or something else to make them flow better. But I do love watercolors <3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-26 21:06:17 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I'll check it out sometime.
Usually with acrylics I just put a lot of water on it. It helps with the stickiness of it. Without water its like dealing with paste. Not exactly easy. Water colors are easier, kind of. If you're not careful they can run and ruin the whole painting. What I usually do is sketch out an outline on the canvas and then paint it. Seems easier for me, especially if I mess up I can erase the pencil. I doubt that's traditional, but I'm an odd artist.
I've never really worked with oils before, though. I'd like to try it out sometime, just to see how different it may be from watercolor and acrylics.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-26 21:24:50 +0000 UTC]

No problem

When I use lots of water with acrylic, it just makes it look too transparent, and the canvas grid shows through too much, and it just irritates me a bit. xD
Yeah, I know, I use watercolors a lot, but at least I can use white acrylic to fix some things up if it's too bad haha. Sometimes it even gives it a nicer effect too.
I like to sketch things out before working too, though on canvas I find it really hard to erase if you make a mistake... at least the kind I have.
I've never worked with oils either. I do have some oil paints, but I'd really like to try water soluble ones first. *needs to buy some sometime when we can afford it*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-26 22:02:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, very true. I tend to over "water" my acrylics, and then I tend to use too less. Haha, haven't found a happy medium yet. And trust me, I know the feeling. Basically everything irritates me.
I never even thought about using white acrylics to mark out mistakes, well then haha. May just try it. I usually use a towel before it dries, but uh... doesn't work too well.
Yeah, erasing on a canvas is a total pain in the ass, but at least most of it gets covered up by paint. I have this paper that acts and feels like a big canvas and erasing on it is hell.
XD Exactly, haha. I need to go to the art store soon, I'm out of sketch paper D:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-26 22:13:18 +0000 UTC]

I think my favorite medium is either a mix of watercolors and colored pencils or watercolor pencils themselves haha. They sound similar, but depending on what medium you use, you can get pretty different results.
Yeah, towels don't work very well, and sometimes just end up making it worse by smearing it Dx I usually only use a paper towel to soak up any excess of water, but using it to try to pull up color normally doesn't turn out too well...
Yeah, except for watercolors, which the pencil kinda just shows through haha.
And omg I remember one time I used a colored pencil on a watercolor picture on canvapaper to smooth it out, and... I'll never do that again, it completely killed the pencil and I barely had any of it left when I was done. Dx

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-26 22:30:39 +0000 UTC]

I LOVE watercolor pencils, they're ah-mazing. Haha. I need to get some more. And yeah, true. Just have to experiment, I supposed.
Yeah, that's what happens most of the time. One mistake becomes a huge smear XD I've tried the papertowel before too, it worked okay for getting extra water, but color as u said not so much.
I wing it when I use watercolors, I never attempt to cover pencil with those, haha.
Oh, lord. That doesn't seem fun, not at all. O.O The poor colored pencil!! I've never even attempted something like that, and I know I won't now. Lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-26 23:51:23 +0000 UTC]

Yesh <3 I haven't used them in a while, but they're one of the best things for me to get realism somehow.
Experimenting is always good c: I probably experiment with something new with each new piece haha. I'm not very consistent, but then again, I don't really care to be, since it's more fun to experiment and try new things.
I don't try to cover pencil either with watercolors, it's just futile xD Using colored pencils over watercolors can work though if there's a pencil mark that really shouldn't be there lol
Haha, good, it's so painful seeing the once glorious pencil have gotten so small in such a short period of time :'c Especially when it's Prismacolor, they're over a dollar per pencil now... I was lucky and got my set for cheap compared to how much they usually cost. ;o;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-26 23:58:18 +0000 UTC]

I just like to draw, I don't give a crap if it's correct or not, haha. Like I suck ass with anatomy but I don't really mind XD Too lazy to take time and learn it.
I don't experiment much, but that's mostly because I stick with traditional art. I'm better at it. Drawings, sketches, etc.
Oh god no! Not a prismacolor D: Ugh I'd die. I have two black prisma's and oh lord. *Shivers* They're way too expensive now, it's ridiculous!
;A; I looked at a pack of prismacolor colored pencils and about died because of the price. It was like a pack of ... 24? Idk. It was like 15-18 dollars! I know they're good and all but my god, let the poor kid artists have a chance, will you? Jeez..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-27 01:10:43 +0000 UTC]

Well trying to improve/learn things is always worth it, even for just hobby artists. c:
It's entirely possible to experiment with traditional art as well, I do that all the time as well hehe.
Indeed D: I got mine around Christmas, and I got the 120 pack for half the price with an additional discount they already had. Was one of the happiest days of my life lol xD
Prismacolors are cheap when compared to Derwent or Faber-Castell Polychromos (said to be the best colored pencils) Let's see, comparing the cost per pencil on dickblick.com, Prismas are $.99, Derwents are $1.10, and Polychromos are $1.67. Prismas and Derwents are about $.10 cheaper if you buy 6 or more at a time too. So I'm sticking with Prisma's for now, since they're worth it, but not the most expensive type of pencil.
Idk why they make quality supplies so dang expensive x.x

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-27 02:45:44 +0000 UTC]

True, haha. I just do it for fun, but I'm always happy to improve.
And well, I guess I kinda experimented today with traditional. I used my shading markers I'd gotten from my mom. It worked well! I posted the result on my dA. ^^
Yay for buying art supplies around Christmas! Haha. I've never gotten supplies from a site, I guess I should check it out, though. I usually go to stores like Micheal's or A.C Moore's. I guess it depends on where you live, but those have great art supplies, now the costs of Prismas I have no idea. It was at least a dollar. I've not heard of Derwents, though. Or the Faber-Castell Polychromos. Haha, I just don't use those enough to invest in it. Hell, the art in traditional I do is always done with a lead pencil. More comfortable for me to use, since I'm so used to it. I'm a picky artist.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-27 03:01:17 +0000 UTC]

Yay c:
And indeed! I usually only get art supplies around Christmas, but usually I try to keep it as cheap as I can get it, whether by buying less or getting things on sale. I'm pretty picky with what I spend money on/ask for. xD
There's a Micheals around here.. kinda, it's not that close that we can go to it all the time. It's in the bigger city that's about 45 minutes to an hour away, but the traffic can be horrendous, so we rarely go up that way. I like buying online, but the shipping cost can make it just as expensive as in the store I think.
I heard about the other pencils through other artists. Prismacolors I learned about in school since we used some and they were AMAZING so I had to get some. xD I've always loved colored pencils haha.
I can be fairly picky at times too when doing serious pics, but I also love little experiments with different supplies as well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-27 18:31:56 +0000 UTC]

Things on sale are always a good way to go, haha. Yeah, so am I, believe me. I'm really picky about my sketch books, like the thickness of the paper and all.
Oh, lord. I'm not sure how far our Micheal's are, but not nearly that far. O-O I know A.C Moore's is closer, for sure. We don't go often, though, unfortunately. Traffic is another worry, too. In the city that's about an hour away from where I live is so bad. I love the city but not the people!
Shipping is always a pain with whatever you buy online, I like Amazon, they're pretty decent on shipping, depending on what you get. I have no clue if they sell are things, though.
I heard about them (Prisma's) on YouTube, by this guy named Mark Crilly. He uses them all the time, he's the author of a few manga books. He's like a god to me when it comes to art. So jealous!
I've never been big on coloring, honestly. Not even as a kid, but I decided to try it. I don't use them often, but I probably should.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Sammy3314 [2012-07-28 13:32:11 +0000 UTC]

Indeed xD I can be picky, but as I've been drawing less in sketchbooks lately, I haven't been as picky haha. I do like slightly rougher paper on sketchbooks that give things a nice texture though. c:
Yeah, that's why I hardly get to go there, it's too far for a casual visit xD I kinda like the city we go to, but I agree, the people/traffic can really be a deterrent to go.
I've only bought a few movies from amazon before. If I shop online, amazon is usually the first place I look for general things, but blick is my first choice for art supplies, seeing as they have almost everything you can imagine. :'D
Hehe, I've always loved coloring, so it wasn't hard for me to get into art as a kid and such.
Btw, here's a video I found recently that a tv station made as a tribute for Bob Ross using clips from some of his shows, and audiotune. Normally I'm not the biggest fan of audiotune, but this is just amazing xD It totally captures the 'Bob Ross' feeling: [link]

Sammy3314 In reply to Kasaurus [2012-07-29 00:15:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, texture is big for me, also I tend to erase A LOT haha. So it helps with like...not ripping the paper.
Yeah, it'd be a rare occasion for me too. Haha
My family loves amazon to we get a variety of things from it. It's usually good, definitely reputable. Depends on who you buy things from, though.
I'm gonna have to check this blick out, it seems.
Yeah, I've basically grown into coloring, haha.
Oh my god, haha. That was awesome! I like it, and his painting and his skills are just amazing!

Yes xD
I kinda like amazon too from what I have bought, but yeah, some things listed can be outrageously expensive for some reason. o-o; I don't get some people's mentalities at charging such a high price for some things.
You should c:
And I know, right? He's awesome haha. You should see his actual tv show, he makes everything look so easy, and I swear, if you blink sometimes, all of the sudden he did something that just... wow. And he's so mellow and calm through the whole thing too. Best art show ever
