Description
instead of spending 3 days on different parts of the tutorial i just put down some basic tips that helped me out a lot...hope that's enoughHands
1) DONT FORGET THE WRIST!! think of it as a softball between ur hand and ur arm..forget it and ur character is growing fingers from their arm...and that's just creepy..
2) THE PALM!! IT EXISTS!! no noodle wrists, there's bones there...dont forget it!! leave an open area the size of the wrist, it will extend the area u have between fingers and give the bent in fingers something to rest on
3) THINK OF PERSPECTIVE! if a hands on the table and someone is behind viewing it they will see more wrist and arm then the actual hand...and silly as it may seem the middle finger is generally the longest finger on the hand so it should be slightly longer then the index finger and if the same length, try to draw it bent so it retains it's lenght in the pic
4) BENDING POINTS!! to point we need to use the bones in the hand to flex, in the index finger there are the 3 bending points but in the thumb only 2 because of its shorter length, give the thumb 3 and u have a second index finger
Feet / Shoes
1) REMEBER THE BALL OF YOUR FOOT! it's more evident in cats and wolves but we have it too...when drawing someone on their tiptoes it's a nice thing to remember
2) THE SLOPE OF THE FOOT!! the slope of the top of the foot connects it to the leg and ankle just like the palm of the hand connecting to the wrist...when standing on tiptoe a character can have a straight line connecting to the leg on the top but several curves to show the shape of the foot at it's base.
3) DESIGNS MUST MOVE WITH THE SHOE! when drawing a shoe and it's decals please remember that the decal needs depth if it is to be considered a design ON the shoes...all things come to a point in the distance somewhere if they are angled, using pencil to draw in the lines creates a greater depth in the pic (ex: speedlines in manga)
it's not perfect but it's the best i could do really...i still have trouble with the feet myself and i often pose in the mirror, not out of vanity but out of curiosity...i'm not the skinniest person in the world but i learn about the human body and it gets easier to draw
asking people to pose is great too, my little bro has done it for me a few times and i love him for it!
research manga to learn more techniques and u'll be doing great hands and feet in no time!
