Description Due to Popular Demand~
I've made a tutorial on how to make clay/sculpey eyes for plush!

I actually had a really fun time making this one. It only took me around two hours, versus the 10+ it took to make
the Toothless one. Not to mention I could do this one outside. It was such a beautiful day out.

Watch out when using the super glue! I glued my fingernail to my finger on several occasions. See what I do for you guys?

If there's anything you don't understand, ask me! If this tutorial isn't clear, I'd love to go back in and change it.

I'll have a text version up soon. I just need to get it formatted correctly.

once again, i do love those llamas

It's funny because my OC is married to Ed (actual dream sparked this romance) but my fiance looks like Roy o.O

Michael's sells them. They're in the teddy bear/googly eye section.

DriftingWolf In reply to iluvanimals1 [2011-04-10 03:34:18 +0000 UTC]

You could use felt, but it's flatter and won't be as defined as if you did it in Sculptey. Just get thread matching the iris and pupli colors and embroider them on. That's what I'm doing for back up if my Sculptey doen't work.

Oh yeah..... Do you bake in the oven or in a kiln?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DriftingWolf In reply to rottenapple3 [2011-04-10 03:31:56 +0000 UTC]

You bake sculptey in the oven. I had to bake my model of 3 (from Shane Acker's '9') on my family's oven for about an hour. There should be instructions on the wrapper.

Where do you buy your safety eyes? My friend and I are having a hell of a time trying to find some. >.<

Rae-Lynn In reply to xSubby [2010-12-18 19:55:52 +0000 UTC]

if you have a michaels by you, they sell them. That's where Ibought mine. However, I find you can use a screw and a nut instead of a safety eye in the clay.

Yeah, we checked our Micheal's but couldn't find any! I was shocked, haha. But that's okay, we found some at Joanne's. But thank you for the tip! I'm trying to make this plushie for my boyfriend for Christmas, and, obviously, I'm running out of time. I'll keep that in mind next time though. Thank you so much.

how would you go about making a fabric eye for say your design of a toothless plush? (seeing as how I can't get the stuff for the eye)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DriftingWolf In reply to Kry-Havoc [2011-04-10 03:39:36 +0000 UTC]

Try light green and black felt, and find thread matching the iris and pupil, them embroider it onto the plush. It'll look flatter and less realistic than sculptey, but it's another (kind of cheaper) way.

how do you attach the eyes to the plush? wont wobble about jus being attached buy a little plastic loop? sorry im new to plushie making and am being way to ambitious in attempting a toothless plush

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Katy-A In reply to Ulla-Andy [2010-11-08 20:16:14 +0000 UTC]

If you mount them on plastic safety eyes, then they have a washer and peg sort of thing in them that helps. I also like using super glue.

hey I have a little problem, I want to make my toothless plushie, but I can't seem to find one item, the plastic safety eyes. I've gone to all the art and crafts stores in my area and can't find those things anywhere! Where did you buy yours?

Katy-A In reply to Courageofalionsheart [2010-06-13 15:56:35 +0000 UTC]

I bought mine at an AC Moore- I've found that Jo Anns and Michaels don't have them. If you can't find them there, you could try online? This place looks promising ---> [link]

Ok dumb question...

I don't understand what that black piece of plastic is or what it is for? How does that attach to the plush?

Thank you again for making this, it's help me discover that I can sew xD!

Katy-A In reply to bluedragon155 [2010-05-18 19:42:30 +0000 UTC]

You mean the black, plastic safety eyes? They get glued into the clay eyes, then you use the peg on the safety eye to secure the eyes to the head.
