Due to Popular Demand~I've made a tutorial on how to make clay/sculpey eyes for plush!
I actually had a really fun time making this one. It only took me around two hours, versus the 10+ it took to make
the Toothless one. Not to mention I could do this one outside. It was such a beautiful day out.
Watch out when using the super glue! I glued my fingernail to my finger on several occasions. See what I do for you guys?
If there's anything you don't understand, ask me! If this tutorial isn't clear, I'd love to go back in and change it.
I'll have a text version up soon. I just need to get it formatted correctly.

I have a question. I've completed Toothless (wings and all) except for the eyes. I am making mine out of polymer clay, since it is recommended and I have a skill with it, and my mom, being an artist is painting them.
So my question is, how did everybody attach the eyes???? I did not use the plastic stuffed animal eyes because in my first test run they broke off very easily. Did anyone make holes in the back and sew them on? Lemme know what ya did!

I don't know if this is correct, but I think that's what the plastic safety thing is for.

Yea I know that's what the safety is for but the plastic prong piece itself wasn't attaching to the eye. I ended up just gluing the eyes directly onto my plushie.

Am thinking of making a Toothless (HTTYD) plushie and with the eyes are you able to paint them (with acyrlic) after you've baked it before putting the varnish on??

Yup! That's what I did with mine! Except my mom painted them since she is an actual painter lol.

To get Toothless' crossed-eye expression, do you recommend placing the pupil on the low end of the eye or the high point? Or will that make the plush look goofy? I don't want him to look like a Derp, but I do want him to have that adorable facial expression.

Hello, im currently working on a toothless from your pattern, and i was hoping you could tell me how you attached the eyes? PLEASE
i understand you use the plastic eye, which i have brought some of, but...do you just cut a hole in the head to push it through? and do i need to sew around the hole to give it more strength if this is the case...?

I think you push the needle through the plastic safety thing and then sew it around the back of the eye and the plush. IDK. Sorry if I just made you more confused.

How well do these kinds of eyes hold up for general wear (cuddling and such)? Also, what kind of Sculpey do you use? I'm asking because I need to fix a plush's face and replace an eye on it (this Delibird [link] ) because it got chewed up by a dog -_- I have a lot of white Sculpey II but I'm not sure if there are better/firmer styles of it for this type of thing.

Hey, I''m making a Toothless plush using America's pattern and found your tutorial for eyes. I was just wondering what exactly 'safety eyes' were, I can't find them. Do they have an alternate name? I was hoping to start gathering things.

I made eyes out of felt. I cut out ovals that were twice as big as the size that I wanted. I used the sewing machine to embroider a pattern down the eye to make the cat-eye. I then used a running stitch and sewed along the edge of the oval and gathered it to from the eyeball. I stuffed it with a teensy bit of stuffing and then sewed the eyeballs to the head. If I can figure out how to do it, I'll post a picture of it somewhere.

When you say to get paper cut outs of the desired size, do you mean they are avaible at a craft store to buy or is it an online thing?

You make them yourself. I don't think there's any available in craft stores. Use an index card if you can, you can use one more times than making two one-time cut outs using copier paper.
