I don't know how japanese art schools are, but mine in Murcia, Spain was awesome... many parties, delicious spanish food such as ham... our ham is the best =¬=
plus, art students are much more unique (in the best way of course), all the other students from different careers don't know what they're missing!

Okami: Still in high school so i can't relate, but I get the feeling this is kinda how it would go down for me. Most of my friends are really smart (Not implying that I'm not, I'm actually in quite a few advanced classes, but I'm an art student so it's kinda pointless) and have really awesome career plans an then there's just me, aimlessly floating around as I draw.
