Shouldn't the eye shines be in the direction of the light?

Depending on what your light source is, it shouldn't matter. If you look at a real eye in a bright light, where you can clearly see the shine, you may notice as you turn your head, the shine moves as well. So it's hard to call, but either way, it should still look good. xD The shine should be near the center of the eye.

Well, there are normally a few highlights of which two or sometimes three are visable. The largest is where it should be, facing the light source, then you get a smaller one where the light comes out the other side, under the pupil.

You're probably right on that, but since this is just a cartoon eye, I'm not going into such detail. But if I was to do realism, I will keep it in mind!

It looked perfectly fine to me that the light was coming from the upper left hand side of the pic, and going to the lower right. Shouldn't the shadow also be on the upper left, and the highlight on the lower right, like you have it? That is what you do when you have a concave object, right?
