did you reference another drawing though? or is it your original work and there's no other replica? for me that's what defines a true artist... when you can draw on paper what you envision in your head and not merely just making another carbon copy of someone else's work

Defining a 'true artist' and 'good art' is actually something i tried to answer not so long ago.
I understand your point, and it even sounds familiar. To answer your question, I used a reference, a screenshot from the anime, a couple years ago.
That's how i started, trying to draw what i observe, either used the "grid method", or no guidelines at all, simply to get used to the pencil and to visualize forms.
Quickly noticed that i could get acurate results comparing with the original pictures. (This drawing is one of those exemples).
After that, i totally changed the approach. My most recent drawings are an whole different story, not a mere "copy" of what i was seeing (I'm now doing that for Realism, which is the point of it). Now it's more of a personal approach, can't call it style yet since it's something i'm still working on ^^

I never meant for it to sound condescending when I asked whether you referenced another source... hahaha... I simply wanted to know... and whether you did or not it doesn't detract from your artistic abilities... you are simply one of... if not the best artist I've stumbled across on DA... I just wanted to pay you that compliment... and hope I didn't come off sounding arogant in my earlier comment

Oh hey no, not at all! haha, you asked me a question and expressed your own opinion.. nothing arrogant about that. I just wanted to let you know a bit of what i've been doing here, since you decided to 'watch' me (btw thank you for that ^^)

Seriously, I really appreciate your kindness and motivational words ^^ but in a few days/weeks you'll see how talented artists can be. I joined dA mostly to watch, instead of uploading, there are so many great artists here on dA.

I know what you mean XD I honestly was somewhat confident in my abilities as an artist... sure I can't do realism like you... but I think I'm decent at drawing anime XD ... but after browsing around DA... I find that I just can't measure up to a lot of artists... it makes me wanna give up and abandon this account
then I remember a quote of Sasori's
"I don't care what people think, I only care about perfecting my art" XD hence, is my reason why I'm still here lolllll

Give up? why? pratice and trying new stuff will make you grow up as an artist.
Try to see those artists as a source of inspiration instead! But for me, the most important is: the joy. Without joy i wouldn't be able to make most of the works i've uploaded.. and here i'm particularly talking about the hours spent in each one, which would be considered a turn-off to a lotta people xD many hours dedicated, but i always enjoyed the process without even caring about time ^^
Since you like Deidara, remember: "Art is an explosion". Ever thought about the meaning of that? one of my interpretations is something like: at any moment (explosively?) you can make something really great (This really applies to some of my drawings xD). So if you enjoy drawing, keep doing it and have fun! (and share please, haha)
