Personality:
Sam is kind, polite, and formal. He interacts with other people in a very business-like manner and is openly friendly, but won’t usually go out of his way to really connect with people. He is a private person and keeps most of his thoughts and opinions to himself and rarely discusses his personal life.
He is much more relaxed around Stef’n and Rue and tends to balance out their chaotic personalities. He’s a bit of a mother hen to both of them and makes sure they take care of themselves and actually eat a decent meal every once in a while (or talk them out of doing something really really stupid which, admittedly, is fairly often).
Hobbies/Interests:
Puzzles and games, learning new things, organizing and cleaning, cooking, making fancy coffee, and finding pretty flowers and rocks for Rue.
Skills:
-Highly intelligent and has degrees in math and biochemistry.
-Incredibly self-sufficient and reliable.
-Is an excellent chef and can scrape together a meal even when it seems like there’s nothing to eat in the pantry or fridge.
Not-So-Skillz:
-Has the physical strength of a wet paper towel.
-Can get irritated and sometimes makes rash decisions when he’s upset. Also tends to hold grudges rather than attempting to solve problems. Absolutely will NOT confront anyone about anything. He might mouth off to Stef’n occasionally but that’s about it.
-Overthinks things and common sense tends to escape him.
-Very skittish
Background:
Sam was born into a strict military family and was the youngest of three children. His father was a decorated officer and intended on raising his three children to pass on the family tradition of joining the ranks of the Irken Elite. His plans were thwarted, however, when Tallests Viska and Emerah passed new laws barring “natural” (not genetically enhanced/born in a smeetery) Irkens from joining the military.
Sam (then 10 years old) and his siblings then found themselves at the mercy of an already volatile father that now resented their existence. Sam’s older siblings (Sebria and Sevren) usually responded to their father’s outbursts with outright violence while Sam tried to shrink into the shadows and avoid notice as much as possible. Sam often tried to go to his mother for help but was usually met with indifference. This went on, getting increasingly worse, for nearly two years until a fire broke out in their home. Sam had been the only one awake that night and managed to escape through an attic window and go to a neighbor’s house for help. By the time fire crews arrived, the house was already engulfed in flames and Sam was the only survivor. He sustained only minor burn injuries and a few cuts.
After Sam recovered, he was sent to a group youth home and given access to therapy. Sam began to refocus strongly on his education, and was thrilled to have so much access to books and information as well as a calm and stable environment. His guardians quickly found that he was a very gifted learner and placed him in advanced courses. By the age of 24 he earned the highest available degrees in math and biochemistry and moved to the West District to begin looking for a job in his field of study. Due to the competitive nature of that field, he struggled to find work quickly and so he took up a job as a barista at a nearby coffee shop in the meantime. After only a couple weeks of working there he met a very charming lady named Rue who happened to be good friends with a Geneticist. Rue managed to get him an interview and he got the job working as Stef’n’s assistant. Rue asked him out on a date soon after and they have been together ever since. Sam is very much enjoying his new delightfully chaotic life. <3

-Sam’s name was inspired by my favorite fictional Sams (Sam Winchester, Samwise Gamgee) and also Sam the Cat With Eyebrows. |D <3
-The biggest influence for his personality was Ichabod Crane in Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. Looking back now, I think it had a bigger influence than I realized! Lol I friggin love that movie, if you didn’t already know that.
-I’ve always imagined either Matthew Gray Gubler or Adam Scott voicing Sam :'D

For anyone who is curious, no, my OC’s do not exist within the canon IZ universe (obviously lol). My own universe is based solely on my personal interpretation of the IZ universe. My universe also exists much earlier than canon IZ, probably by a few centuries. For explanation, Invader ZIM supposedly takes place in an apocalyptic future and my universe is more or less an exploration of how Irken society might have gotten to where it is as we see it in canon IZ, but with my own twists of course. c:
