those are amazing!! I just watched 'Aliens' a couple days ago... and these look like something they could have used. Standing well back from the blood sprays of course.

Awesome! You did a great job modeling this! Although I have a hard time not thinking that the gun would tip over considering how close those back legs are together, but I'm not entirely sure those aren't bolted to the ground. Would love to see some textures on this, but if you don't get there, it's fine the way it is! So reminds me of my WarHammer 40K modeling days ^_^

Congrats on the DD!

I think the modeling looks good, but I would like to make one suggestion here....

where you have the ammo inside of a cartridge on the ground, perhaps you should have it placed onto the back of the gun itself, so when the gun rotates, the ammo wont get all snagged up in the gun support legs.

but, good none the less.

also, it doesn't really look like you can hold it...............i'd also make a shoulder padding, so you can stop it from backfiring(even if it IS an emplacement gun)i'd make some kind of handlebar.cause the one you have now doesn't look very operational

I don't think it was designed to be wielded by a person. I think it's designed to be used more like a sentry gun where it's controlled remotely, much like the sentry guns used in the movie "Aliens". That's probably the reason for the control panel design in the inserted box.

nicely done.............only suggestion i have is to maybe sleek it down a bit...........it a bit too bulky
also, you should indeed change the textures, and colors, but that's it

That reminds of one thing.... is this an automated turret using A.I or manually controlled version? I wonder where is the trigger...

Looks very high-tech and sci-fiction feel.

the guns look outstanding and great job in the efforts to make additional props to really set in the overall effect. One thing that gets me though... it seems as if the ammo belt should be going into the middle of the gun rather than at the butt. It seems this would allow more mechanized freedom internally for all the gizmoz Im sure the gun is filled with. It looks like there is almost a little groove for something already in the middle of the gun, if you wanted to... Im sure it'd be easy enough to transfer the belt. Otherwise, it looks friggin sweet. Good luck on the texturing.

Brings back memories of the second Aliens movie, on the uncut version they set up guns like this to cut off entry points into the secure zone. This is a very well thought out modeling job, it's nice to see not only the talent, but the purpose behind all the different sections involved in this image. Nice job and congrats for being featured, well deserved.

I have to agree that I immediately thought of Aliens (The old 80's or '79 movie as he said) when I saw these two turrets,And after browsing your gallery too I thought this was a marvelous piece of modelling.

Are the guns intended for realistic design or just a model you made for fun? Either way,It would be great to see some rough and gritty textures applied to a war-worn set of the guns.

Looking good, and I actually quite like how the lack of texture lets us see all the detail that might otherwise be obscured in the guns' structure. I feel I must ask if the gun is intended to rotate, however. I like how the cables from the gun (for readouts and power, I'm guessing?) come up through the centre, but I wonder about the magazine. With the gun rotating, the cables'll be safe, but that magazine looks as though it could quite easily catch on one of the tripod legs, were the gun to rotate too far. Apologies if I'm reading too much into it, though.

junglechink In reply to raygun-gothic [2006-02-10 12:57:07 +0000 UTC]

I think so too. The magazine should be attached to the actual gun vs. being a separate portion, regardless if fixed or rotary.

Oh forgot
+fav
AND, the lower barrel could be exchanged for some sort of magazine loaded grenadelauncher, or something, could be kindof cool with a mag sticking out sideways, although this would require the carrying handle on the side to be removed.. :S

Patrik81 [2006-02-10 10:18:59 +0000 UTC]

As has been said before, some sort of ammobox instead of an ammobelt would be more realistic, unless this is supposed to be prototype equipment, that could be excused, because contractors sometimes doesnΒ΄t think of everyhing, but rest assured that when the guys on the ground starts playing with their new "toy" they will have a thing or two to say about the ammobelt and how it "frickin' always snags on the tripod legs..."
But other than that, this is a beauty

borrowed from Aliens? i dont think there really needs to be much texturing.. when you look at military self-activated weapons, they're spraypainted canvas green or solid black so theres not much else but shadowing - eventually they get wear and tear but they still remain fairly monochrome. i think it looks fantastic for any kind of game even - it could be present day or even sci fi really

Should change the bottom barrel to some sort of second sensor.
Show some sort of Hydraulic arm underneath to show how it moves up and down if at all.

Not bad!
Like autocanons from Aliens.

And i think if ammo box will integrated in autocanon - it will better - wide angle of fire, more mobility.

sorry for bad english.
