Hey, I never did get a decent finish on the picture I started, but I'm going to try and finish it a different way and see how it turns out.
I have a few things about this piece - I wish you'd have opened it for critique, it's good enough and there's a lot to say about it.
Now as far as this piece is concerned, the composition is amazing, but to me it looks a bit off as far as lighting goes.
The explosion on the right side of the smaller planetoid is lighting up the entire surface, and looks amazing, whereas the left side of the planetoid is still dark despite the explosion. Also, the side just looks dark in general, because with the eclipse coming from behind the larger planet, my eyes expect the back of the smaller planetoid to be dark, and the edges to be eclipsed with the direction of the light. The angle makes it look almost like the light source is behind the smaller planet.
And the same goes for the impact planetoid - The back of it looks dark even though there's a massive explosion right behind it, and I'd expect it to be molten from the impact itself and the friction of passing through the other planet.
This did give me an idea for a request I have for you for your next impact picture - There are planets that spin extremely fast. What would happen if something hit such a planet and spun the debris out? You'd have a line of explosions and all sorts of fun things to draw.
You know I like your work so I hope you take this as it's meant. I do a lot of photography so I tend to notice lighting more than most, and I know this impact series is to get your work to another level and experiment with things.

You know what? You are absolutely right, and second. You gave me inspiration for a new destructive theme. I will test it out, but i will need some time. And BTW your picture turned out nice for first attempt (my first attempt didn't look anything like that)
Once again, thanks for comment, support and inspiration

I just uploaded a different approach, skipping the ground-to-space view. It turned out much better. <3 I'll be doing more in the future. Also, when I first looked at Day of Impact I was on my laptop and the screen wasn't so bright. It's still noticeable to me, but being at home on my regular monitor makes all the difference. But I'm glad you took it as it was meant. Your work is amazing, else I'd not be trying to so the same. To be great is to be copied, I've heard said somewhere before.

I'm trying to find some cheap Flash program that lets you play with 3D spheres and lighting, but the closest I can get is Blender 3D (Though it's easy to do spheres and lighting in it, and the latest versions have raytracing I think).

That tutorial tells you how to make an actual sphere into a light source so you can set your star, or maybe a nebulae, to mess around with the lighting.

This is full of cool. I really like the color tones.
