I never got past the "other people calling me a good artist" stage because I've never really considered myself an artist. Just a guy who likes to draw. I recognize my flaws and hope to improve them but art takes a backseat to life.
Sadly because of this, I'm still my own worst critic

That's pretty much how it went for me. Except not the dying part... and the being "THE BEST ARTIST EVER!!!" I'm pretty passable if you ask me. I want to get better, but it'll take me a crap-load of time so I can be... THE BEST ARTIST EVER!!!

True, but sad and terrible. Of course, the humorous twist makes it all worth while.

This is why I hate that institutes have a standard on art. :/ Especially in "modern art." I saw several pieces that were just plain boxes with colored lines. Not even diagonal or zigzagged. Just square! Then I pop out a watercolor drawing of a girl giving a peace offering to a dragon and my teacher's like "Nope."

That's bs. It's like when a blank sheet of paper with a frame titled "restart" sold for $150 dollars.

FrostedIcefire In reply to Midori-San998 [2013-04-18 21:17:04 +0000 UTC]

Is that a true story? o_O I can't even make $20 off my lineart of movie-version Bumblebee!

Midori-San998 In reply to FrostedIcefire [2013-04-18 21:32:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's true! My brother used to go to a reading club, and they went to a dinner called Paradigm all the time. One day he told me that one of the art works on the wall that was for sale was just a sheet of blank paper. And that someone had sold it for $150 dollars.

You've got lineart for Bumblebee? Um, if it's on dA could you send me a link? I can't really buy it since I don't have a whole lot of points, but I'd like to see it.

FrostedIcefire In reply to Midori-San998 [2013-04-18 21:47:46 +0000 UTC]

$150 for blank paper... I can get it cheaper at Wal-Mart, by God.

Here it is: [link]
Some guy at school asked me to draw him, I charged $5 an hour. He never had his money, he never got the picture. It's now sitting somewhere in a binder within a box, half-colored.

AnimeFanLee In reply to Mi-Kha-El [2013-04-18 20:38:51 +0000 UTC]

Don't see how that'd add to the humour. If you don't get the point of the last panel, obviously you're not an artist who strives to improve. The point is, any artist that truly wants to be good will never be satisfied with their own artwork, because they can't see anything but the mistakes they made.
