....ya what you say appear only in the two last panel...the rest we see him please only by recognition from others......when he works hard, its only to change the opinion of the others. This guy don`t see his mistake, you don`t show that to us...
You want to talk about striving to improve and never to be satisfied by our own work.
Make a strip of a guy who after finishing an astonishing painting...smash it into piece while yelling that its a piece of shit. Even if people actually said that they like what is has accomplish.
My point of view, with my expirience makes me see that end because...while you try to get better at something....life happen, sickness, death... you know, all at the same F****** time!

Oh, and I totally understood what you meant with your original post. I was just pointing out that it would be completely unrelated to the intended humour of this strip. That would be more to something where if the artist had set himself a target of 3 months to finish a project, and 3 months later he was dead. That is more along the lines of the grim 'humour' that your last panel would fit in with, as opposed to the humorous adaptation of the way in which an artist develops throughout the various stages of his/her life/career that K-bo has done.

I think you misunderstand me. When you're younger, you think you're amazing. I thought I was really good when I was younger, and because others told me my art was impressive, because I was naive and had a highly limited experience. As I got older and my experiences expanded, I came to realise that I had some potential with art, though it was limited, and that what I was capable of at the time was a long way short of what I had previously believed. That happens with every artist (professional, amateur, and recreational), and it is those who want to improve the quality of their work that will constantly see the errors they make and be incapable of being 100% satisfied with what they produce. They may well create a phenomenal piece of art, and even recognise it as such, but because they couldn't get it EXACTLY as they'd intended they won't be happy with it. That's what I meant. I didn't aim it at you as an individual: it was more of a general comment, with the 'you' being a pluralistic, non-specific generalisation referring to the population en masse. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavours.

Isn't art subjective? While according to others he's not the best artist, to his childhood mates he was... It's not like a paper test that you can give an exact number score. =\
