Haha, the sad fact that most artists never are happy with their own work. Still, hopefully there's at least some satisfaction to be gleaned before the last step sets in.

Wait, you mean to communicate there's another step to take after "I suck I'll never draw again"?
goddamnit.

I like to think I'm somewhere between panel 6 and 7 right now.

In essence, yes, yes, and YES! Everyone's story is different, but it all revolves around the same basic idea. In my case, for sure.

Substitute 'art' with 'writing' and this is me in a nutshell.

I'm never satisfied with my art, but I always viewed this as a good thing. It makes me want to improve, so I do.

I don't think anyone is ever satisfied with their art, although I find I am 'more' satisfied about certain artworks. *shrug*
This is so amazingly accurate...

Cute story. The comic however is merely mediocre, bordering on 'okay'.

I'm at the third panel page, but soon enough I'll be in the fourth @ -@ At least 2 years time xD
But I do already realize I'm not the greatest ever xD But I do get some praise o-o... It's kind of annoying sometimes though, especially when you want criticism but they're all "It looks amazing *high five* " an I'm all "I need real advice in order to get better, gosh darn it >:I!"

lol, who hasn't been there. I'm currently in a stage between frames 7 & 8 where I know I'm not the best artist ever and I know other people are kind about my work but not necessarily thrilled by it but I'm cool with that, I'm not a professional, I don't expect to be hanging in galleries any time soon.
At the end of the day there are three types of artists, those who do what they do for themselves, those who do what they do for money and those who do what they do because they have some statement to make. All three can be good, bad and just ok (in terms of quality).
I used to dream about being paid for what I do as a hobby, now I'm just happy that people notice I'm still doing it.

Although I understand this comic and realize this is by far the commonly held belief here about artists in general, I no longer agree with the message of this comic as I once used to. When you look to others to find the value of your work, you will be extremely confused in life. You will adopt the belief that 'experts think I am underwhelming' and even worse, 'those who think I am great have no idea what they are talking about.' I've found that the key issue that is missing is that we as artists, above all else, are unwilling to ACCEPT that we are just as valid and worth it as any of 'the great's', and I do not mean just in the sense of ultimate personal worth, I mean directly in the sense of your own work. When you have that belief instead, you will find that the continued creation of your work will become much more joyful and productive, and you will actually progress much faster than you ever thought you could. Acceptance of oneself is key.

Are you saying that opinions on artwork have no significance on that artwork's value?
If so, would not a line drawn on a piece of paper be equal to a Rembrandt? ("we are just as valid as a great")

When you value yourself as fundamentally equal in value to all other artists, and stop putting ANYONE in reality ABOVE OR BELOW YOU in your heart and mind, you will be shocked with the results. I leave it at that.

So, let me get this straight - most of you think this is accurate? Then how can any of the commenters here defend giving so much attention to drawings of anthropomorphic fucking ponies?

take comfort on the fact that they are 2d drawings, that not everything must be 3d.
