This comic was based on a conversation Sarah and I had during a long night of cutting art cards for our next convention appearance...which tends to happen during our patented pre-con all-nighters. SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK....and thumbless.

I used to use one too when I was working at the high school library and then there was this thing I used that would make paper letters. I would joke about that too. I am odd huh?

Priority issues much? XD As an artist though, I could imagine problems about losing part of your thumb, considering you wouldn't be able to make new art cards anymore! Or at least, it'll affect how you draw the new ones...

It's amazing how much more an artist can care about their art then their well being. I used to freak people at school out when sewing plashes because I'd stab the needle right through a finger, scream bloody murder and then just quietly go back to sewing.

I just watched UHF a few nights ago. There's a scene where Emo Phillips makes a cameo as a shop instructor, and casually cuts his thumb off in a similar fashion with a table saw.
The kicker (for me) is with blood squirting everywhere, he says "Boy is my face red!" XD

Doesn't your cutter have a little safety guard? xD Also I've been using a rotary cutter recently and I never thought I'd say this but I'm starting to like it better!

This reminds me of a sign my elementary school art teacher had. She put a giant poster board next to one of those big bulk-cutting things that said something like "BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN USING" with a very graphic picture of a finger sliced off of a hand, complete with blood and bone.
Needless to say, we were all very careful indeed xD

Oh Gawd, I feel so identified! I've never had major injuries, but it's kind of weird that when you cut or hurt yourself, your first tought is to get the blood away from your work ASAP.
And then, maybe, if there's time left, taking care of the injury.

Something similar but less drastic happened to me once. I was cutting white foam core for some project in high school with a box cutter, when I accidentally sliced off the very tip of my thumb. It was only skin, but it certainly did bleed. My immediate reaction was "CRAP NO NO NO! No blood on my clean board!" Thankfully, I had jerked my hand back fast enough and my precious board was still pristine. Then I bandaged up my thumb and got back to it. This time much more carefully.
SO I TOTALLY GET THIS.

This made me laugh so hard because last night I ended up in A+E after my embroidery machine went through my finger and rendered my hand useless for a few days. My first thought was "No! I'm getting blood on my commissions and my beautiful pink fabric!" So this made me laugh twice as hard as normal, thanks K-Bo!

o_o My mom did this once at work--sliced the end of her thumb off while cutting ties off a display with her cutco pocket knife. It was naaaasty.
xD But this is funny. Considering I hurt myself every time I do a craft of any sort, this is definitely something I could see myself doing.
