Description
Shot three years ago, but created this past Saturday. As the story goes, Abimelech, the bastard son of Gideon had taken over Israel by killing all seventy of his brothers in one day. When rebellion against him began from the city of Shecham was reported to him, he took his army and destroyed the entire town, killing every man woman and child and salting the earth behind him. He was the epitome of evil....
It was a labor intensive piece to shoot with all of the costumes, weapons and armor. But that's what it required. Three years ago we shot this, but this was the day it came into being. I gave myself ten minutes to do the final painting over the images; going from full black to the final piece.
I'm quite proud of this work and the story can be found in Judges 9.

I have been having a bit of a hectic life lately with business changes and trying to get in as much time with my camera as possible, that I have had very little quiet time. Your works allow me to get to that place while still following a passion for art/photography. Each image enough to stir up thought and prompt me to look at the original scriptures. Thank you

Beautifully done, Kevin, which seems a really odd thing to say. How does one portray such hideous evil beautifully, and have it remain what it is? (But I think you managed, taking your cue, perhaps, from the original author of the book. Judges is such a hideous story, beautifully told.)
Blessings,
Steve

Wow, Steve...Thanks so much for that. The Author is the only answer. Apart from Him I haven't a clue....

I'm coming into the conversation late (after picking up one of =pearwood 's links), and I'd agree with Steve's comment. It's so easy to read some of those stories and think, "What a horrible thing to do," and be done with it. It's not until you are hit square in the face (or perhaps, in the gut) with a piece like this that you begin to really understand the magnitude of the evil laid out in those couple of sentences...
That's another reason why art and the imagination are so critical in understanding the world around us.
Speaking of The Author... it's not until you have the weight of that unimaginable evil sitting on your shoulders that you can really appreciate the power of the inexplicable Light that we are celebrating, come this December 25th...
Blessings!

... and may we always find ways to reflect it, even if it means pointing out the darkness.
(And yes, you are most welcome!)
Blessings!

I love the sickly yellow that you used in this piece. It really creates an evocative scene.
