Description
In the time of the Judges there was no king. They had no weapons and in fear kept to the shadows. And as oppression squeezed in upon the people another rose up to deliver them. They say it was 600 he killed with nothing but an oxgoad, a farm tool worthy of nothing more than moving cattle, but with it he saved his people. In the story that is told he is mentioned only in passing. His name was Shamgar but few remember his name.

Yes, there really was a Shamgar. Believe it or not it is from the third chapter of Judges in the bible. You won't find much on him though (which made it an easy place to start) You'll only find this:
"After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath, who struck down six hundred Philistines with an oxgoad. He too saved Israel." He's mentioned only in passing one other time...
Thanks for your thoughts....I like your take on it.

Ah, someone who knows the story? Thank you...
Deborah is soon....We're gearing up for the Samson tale. Alot to build on that one and it's going to be really tricky. But Samson and Delilah are cast.... This whole things going to take me awhile. Maybe a year for the entire book.

I love the stories in Judges.
It is big, with many tales to be told...those Isrealites were an unstable and feisty crew....
I admire your desire to undertake such a large effort. I look forward to seeing more!

That is really nice work Kevin, perfectly lush blended light and color.
(Can your new nickname be Shamgar? Just for a little while..?)

good balance of light and dark. Lovely and painterly. Reminds me of some of Goya's paintings, with how the light is handled.
