Strikingly beautiful. A real reminder of the value of alternative and archaic processes is photography.

Thanks man....and actually it's a new mixed media technique (well from 94) and not an alternative one. The print is made traditionally in the darkroom...

Do you mind explaining it, so I could give it a try or show it to my students?

Hey, sorry for the late reply...
It's basically oil paint over a bw darkroom print. Rub on. Rub off, basically. It has to be an actual darkroom print. Digital media is destroyed by oil. The painting aspect is not so much in the technique itself but how one does it. How I do it comes out the way you see, but every time I see someone else do it, it comes out completely different. Each piece is different so there is no real universal way to go about doing it beyond what I said earlier. I hope that helps somewhat...

Yeah it does. I actually tried it out with a student of mine this past week. I did not have any oil paint on hand (as it was all at home, since I teach drawing and photography, not painting), but I did have some oil based printing ink. I found the results very interesting and to my taste. I suspect I will be playing around more with this during the summer. I also lent a set of oils to a student of mine who paints and does photography, to give it a try over Spring break.
Unfortunately I am mostly shooting digital these days, although there are a couple of ways (inverting the image and printing it on acetate) to take digital shots and make darkroom prints of them.
Any other advice?

Making them darkroom prints would be best. If you can get them to actual BW silver based prints and not just color dye prints.
Other than that...just keep doing what you're doing. You have to find it yourself. And would love to see what you discover....let me know...

Thanks, I have directed a few students whoare very intersted in the process to reaserch it. Any suggestions on what type of glue to use to secure the photos to the canvas?
