Resolution of 72 is actually really small, if printed on paper it'd be about 2 inches if I remember, rather small. My girlfriend taught me something she learned in graphic design, setting your resolution to 300 is full resolution and this means a lot less pixels when line arting and coloring! I recently started doing this in the past 2-3 days and it's really a nice difference. <: give it a try!

I have been doing drawings in 300dpi since march now,
you see, I started graphic design in march
I'm also drawing much, much bigger (which is kinda painfull, notebook small screen, yaay) then I used to last year, I'm actually having a hard time to draw small pictures .-.
but thanks a lot! I'll change the tutorial so others can see it too!

Awesome tutorial! I can never get the lines as smooth as I would like them, and these tips will really help with them!

so, you said resize the sketch and THEN draw, but then wouldn't the final lineart still be not smooth? o.o
or do you resize the lineart when you're done too?

Sketch -> resize -> do the lineart -> color the whole thing -> when you finish you'll resize it again, BUT TO 50% (:
lines will look smooth don't worry, but be sure to keep the 100% file anyway, just in case

This is such a good tutorial. Thank you for posting it. ^_^
I've just attempted my first digital piece.
Do you use a graphics tablet to get your lines so smooth? I had to use my mouse and I it took forever. The thinner my brush the messier it was. I used the Pen tool for most of it.

Yes I do use a graphic tablet. But pen tool is an excellent way to get some alike results. Of course, practicing a lot (:

I use a Wacom Bamboo Fun. It's pretty good. I have it for 3 years and never had any problem. All Wacom tablets are really awesome, if you're thinking aboout getting one, Wacom is the way to go.

Excellent tutorial, khalamity! Unfortunately the Gimp program I use doesn't utilize a similar line command, which is why I'm thinking of changing over to PS or Illustrator.

It's pretty similar to Photoshop but it's a little more complicated to work with.

Thanks for this tutorial. ^^ Linart is one of those things that always seems to escape my grasp, but I think this will help a bit. ^^ Thanks again!

Lineart can always be a pain in the ass. But you learn how to like it, after some few/thousand drawings lol!
Thanks!
