I dunno, I just love pieces like this.. They seem very close to nature.. Do I need to even MENTION how awesome the creature design is? And as always your rendering is jaw-dropping.. ^_^

Coolness, thanks for the comments. I know you're strapped for time, and I do appreciate when you drop in for a peek. All I can say is that the Lycaenops is, as best I could perform, a fairly accurate reconstruction. As far as the skin tone and whiskers....well, again, artistic license, as is the case in paleo renderings.
BTW, I found a really nice book called "Himalaya". It has some excellent photos from that side of the world, along with some great character design ideas in it. It's a heafty book, both weight wise and pocketbook-wise, but the photos alone are fun to look at for reference. Some very interesting faces in there. There's also a book on Russian culture at the UCLA library that I'm trying to track down once again; some great faces and profiles in there as well. If I can find it, I'll post the info here.

I would have sincerely preferred if this was not touched up in Photoshop, kinda ruins the "natural" atmosphere of the scene.
Your rendition of the Lycaenops is wonderful

Let me guess... the late Permian version of "pet".... although I can't be too sure about the kid, since the only fossils of this agile hunter were found in Africa.... Maybe he was on vacation...
Jokes aside, you are indeed very gifted with coloured pencils so...
