Description Before we start on the story of the Yonghe-class Space Light Cruisers, we must understand the story of its predecessor, the Tashkent-class of Space Light Cruiser/Destroyer Leaders. For a thousand years, the Tashkent-class cruisers have served the then Union of Human Worlds and Republics and now the United Federation of Human Republics have reached its limit. With many of the original ships of the class now slated for decomissioning, a new ship is seeked for a replacement, thus many Shipbuilders both private and stateowned along with the Shanghai Translight Shipbuilding Corporation, headquartered in the planet of Shanghai-Zhou, the Sino Republic, United Federation of Human Republics submitted their study of a new light cruiser, whom they won. Traditionally basing most light cruiser variants from the succsesful Tashkent-class were designed as wing (ship squadron) command vessels thus newer light cruisers were designed similar to that concept by most Shipbuilders, except the Shanghai Translight Shipbuilding Corporation's new cruiser design which emphasized both command ability and as a dedicated heavy point defense and fleet screening ship that would force multiply the defensive capabilities of smaller frigates and destroyers, a role usually relegated to the larger heavy cruisers which usually gets force multiplied by the presense of larger first and second rate battleships. The Yonghe-class was accepted into construction by the Human Parliament and the Astro Force Naval Command in part of the 20th Century HIC Fleet Modernization and Expansion Program which has been put to half for almost 2 decades due to the Fall of Terra and began construction of the first batch in 1925 HIC and saw the first batch, totalling at 35 ships entering service by 1929. All 35 ships operated in the 19th Fleet and would see great success in their ability to hunt down Zionist Order Remnant Fleets due to their new design approach. This new downsized role of what would a heavy cruiser be doing indeed expanded a fleet's ability to cover fire and screen against incoming missile barrages, especially the typical missile barrages that would often penetrate defenses are now absorbed by the salvos and rain of fire that is the discharge of hundreds of pulse phase bolts fired from more units which can be organized. This succsess would see the class expand into a fleet of 640 ships by mid-century and plans to expand the Yonghe-class with another 38 different variants and batches are made, the class is to replace the entirety of the first 2,741 Tashkent-class Light Cruisers by the 1980s HIC. The Yonghe-class is outfitted with a new type of Advanced Long Range Laser-Focused Positron/Particle Beam emitters (dubbed the Advanced Focused Particle Hybrid Laser Emitter (or Phase Gun for short) Type-1920 Phase Long Range Variant Gun) in the bow which was power efficient however very destructive, at full yeild could flatten a city from orbit, a new development for the Phase Guns which has been used for the past 3.5 centuries, replacing the older Laser-Focused Plasma/Positron Gun which has been in use for over 1.6 millennia, this class was the first class of ship equipped with this type of advanced weapon as most of the current generation Phase guns and the ones used to expand the fleet in the 20th Century HIC Fleet Modernization and Expansion Program was of older compacted and miniaturized versions which was neither power efficient nor had the power to pierce the atmosphere of an Terra-like world at ranges beyond 100 kilometers while keeping the energy density to impact in such distances. The Yonghe-class being 150 meters longer than the Tashkent-class has space for an actual hangar that can be used to support the ship or troops on planet side, however unlike the strike craft carried by other larger ships, the Torpedo Boats as an example carry more Close Air Support weapons in the form of 4 light pulse phase guns mounted on where other versions of the same torpedo boat class would have 4 anti-ship torpedoes thus boasting air support for planet-side operations which expanded the versatility of the ship. The new variants of the class focused on one aspect of the base design, either emphasizing more on planetary assault support, having more sensors to coordinate the ship's point defense, acting as larger versions of the Tashkent-class, a Command and Control Variant or a miniature version of the Minister-subclass of Legacy-class Space Heavy Cruisers, a communications ship variant if the Legacy-class or even taking of a logistics support role, ferrying cargo from larger super-capital ships here and there. The Yonghe-class Light Cruisers, Kii-class Assault Battleships, Legacy-class Cruisers and the Phoenix-class Escort/Expeditionary Titans would arm the Astro Force in the 20th Century HIC to a more powerful institution, signalling the start of humanity's slow return to galactic politics after the disaster that is the Zio-Confederate War of 1880 HIC.

Trivia: Yonghe (永和) means "Everlasting Peace."
