Description
The Enterprise escapes form the black hole after leaving Zefram Cochrane behind to a ship of unknown origin but of familiarity. The black hole wasn't too bad to recreate though I would certainly take another a crack it at a later date.
Inspired by the Novel Federation and Interstellar

Of course once they're done this maneuver they'll be about 50 years late getting home

It encapsulated the best from all three eras.
Chochrane and humanity struggling to find their way before and after the nuclear war.
Kirks cowboy diplomacy on the very edge of space.
The science and intrigue of the TNG era.
It was truly one of or perhaps even the best single novel Star Trek ever got. It also never outstayed its welcome, it was just the right length.

If you like Saavik, read The Pandora Principle. It's my all-time favourite Treklit.

Captain's log, stardate 3113.2. We were en-route to Starbase 9 for resupply when a black star of high gravitational attraction began to drag us toward it. It required all warp power in reverse to pull us away from the star. But, like snapping a rubber band, the breakaway sent us plunging through space, out of control, to stop here, wherever we are.

Including repeating the slingshot effect that trapped the Enterprise in the late 1960's, and that's after the return their passengers, Captain John Christopher and the Airforce Sergeant.

I think they did a marvelous job, and considering that so far most of our knowledge is purely theoretical, who knows what it would really look like? In a phenomenon in which our perception of space-time is literally bent out of shape by gravity, who knows what implications that might have? That's why all those haters that were bashing on the movie annoy me. When even top scientist like Professor Hawking admit, that we merely have theoretical knowledge about such objects, well, give sci-fi a little bit of room to play with already! Nevermind the fact that there is the theory that a black hole could be a gateway or the starting point for another universe; who's to say that in such an extreme envrionment our own experience couldn't form the way we perceive such an envrionment. Another nice example for this theory is "TNG 1x05 - Where No One Has Gone Before."

DOOD I loved that movie
Great work on this render, this is a great recreation of the scene from the movie
That black hole was terrifying and intense, one of my favorite scenes in the movie was when the main character fell into the black hole

Never seen Space Odyssey, to be honest... but I see your point, I know some about the style in which 2001 was made
