Description

Hailing from the mountainous world of Avaloon, located rimwards of the Suuk, the Roomlax are hardy, stocky sapient species that have been spacefaring for only a couple of centuries and have established a fairy powerful presence in the region.

Their stout bipedal bodies evolved in the rugged terrain of Avaloon's rocky landscape to allow the roomlax easy travel for hunting. Their large torsos displays two arms and legs, each ending in three digits. The legs end in two stumpy feet for stability, and a small but stocky tail allows for greater balance. Their large heads sits on a muscular neck and has two slithery, completely eyes, two large sensitive ears, an armored forehead and a mount with a prominent overbite. Their bodies is covered in a rugged, leather like skin with several patches of bony armor stretching across their back and upper arms. Though their eyes appear small, they are very well adapted to to the dark as night on Avaloon last for 62 hours, although the presence of two bright moons can sometimes render it moot, however the ancient roomlax toke shelter mostly in the dark caves stretching within the worlds numerous mountains for long periods of time. A dense bone structure and powerful musculature makes the roomlax formidable, enduring hunters.

Despite their endurance and physical strength, the roomlax are, outside of hunting, very passive and gentle beings. Living for most of their lives in the underground cities in the caverns of Avaloon's numerous mountains, the roomlax come out mostly to hunt and scout for new resources they can't reach outside the cave systems. Their society is very loose, with each underground colony lead by an appointed leader though popular vote who, together with a number of lieutenants, manage the colony's internal affairs such as settling disputes. Outside of that, however, they have little power or even a proper government, most roomlax being very individualistic. Each family is responsible for itself, only banning together in the colonies for mutual protection- outside of that, they hunt alone and each individual is on their own, leading to little organization or large scale infrastructure. Even wars are highly uncommon, with the largest scale conflict being a massive brawl that ensued when to of colonies in the past discovered a new cave system linking their respective territories. Besides it, most colonies are isolated from one another as a whole, although members frequently move from one to the other with little restriction, which has lead to a fairy common culture across the world as roomlax move to and from each colony, spreading new ideas far and wide.

A free, adventure seeking spirit, courage and hunting skills are seen as the most virtuous traits in roomlax society, and individuals who brave the wilderness to distant colonies are the most look up to heroes- spreading new ideas and discovering new lands for future generations.

Despite of the lack of government, many roomlax colonies have become quite advance and knowledgeable prior to first contact; some managing to, despite the lack of cooperation, achieve small scale sub orbital flight, their sense of adventure and curiosity being the primary driving force. Around the year 2000, the nearby Suuk discovered the world as its larger colonies ventured into space, and promptly made first contact with them, specifically so the Dominion would get a new ally in the region, especially given Avaloon's proximity to the Groth-aligned Seo'ka.

Emboldened by the prospect of exploring the galaxy and with the Dominion's help, the scattered, unorganized cities of roomlax slowly but surely began to conglomerate into a loose confederation so that they could properly build up a spacefaring civilization, but also to protect themselves from potential threats, especially the Seo'ka Authority spinwards. The Confederation, though not nearly as well organized and powerful, grew in a relatively short period to become a small regional power, showing that despite the roomlax are far from simply a disorganized rabble like many outsiders first believed, a stereotype which still persists centuries later despite the Commonwealth being a major local power.
