Description
A cloverfield monster redesign for godzillasamurai's contest. i wish i still had my photoshop or corel painter. after doing a black and white, i realized it had to be in color.anyhow. as far as his breathing goes, he has an overdeveloped set of gills that can filter enough air to sustain it on land for short periods. i was going with a sort of mutant coelacanth. heres the kicker: because of his immense size and long dormancy, large clusters of coral began to grow on his hide. after several thousand years his body became a living colony for all see life.

Cool, it looks like he's more of a sea monster, but still is able to function on land!
I like the fur and the colors you used. I especially like the shape of his body and head.

I never really like that picture much, I just uploaded it out of the blue. I've had lots of requests for it, though, and I'm not sure why.

Awesome! You clearly took references from the whale like clover design.

hahaha, i think the colors are awful on this. it was more a study than full fledged piece, but I post everything, sketches included.

it's looks rather "unclean", but that makes it look interesting, at least to me

Thanks. it's good to know you appreciate it the way that it is. it's definetly not finished, but perhaps someday will get around to it.

Hey, do as you will (or not) with this concept in your own time...if nothing else, this truly showcases your flair for monstrous marine life.

Interesting...this redesign's general build reminds me of one of the 'review' designs seen on one of the pre-film websites: a dark, looming mass of Lovecraftian gristle.
Now, while I enjoyed Cloverfield (once I got over a mild case of motion sickness c/o the jumping camera), the monster IS damned reminiscent of both Orga from "Godzilla 2000" and the Rancor from "Return of the Jedi".
This coelacanthic atrocity might not be quite as dynamically mobile (over pavement, anyway), but certainly epitomizes the "moving mountain" aspect of daikaiju, and certainly sports a degree of original, brutish charm. Heck, on top of that, this beastie's enormous array of nooks & crannies provide all kinds of space for those nasty, nasty parasites to roost (unlike film-Clover's comparatively smooth hide).

Honestly, i did this for godzillasamurai's contest, but never ended up submitting it because i didn't like it enough. I kinda rushed into it and never really turned out anyhting i liked. maybe someday i'll revisit the concept (because i kinda like the coral and whatnot growing all over it) but i don't forsee it in the near future, though your comments make me want to try again.

Looks so fish-like and with a hint of the Abomination from Hulk in it.

Man, I approve of anything with increased levels of coelacanth.

Nice work, I like the coelacanth and coral reef ideas. Great artworks as well. Good luck!
