Chapter 17 - Lingering Nightmares

For several days, Envy and her friends worked together to rebuild their destroyed home. This time, they’re going to make it look even better than the last. Other things also happened throughout. Haydn and Sombra have started dating each other, Bonnie used her minishark to make a star cannon, and Envy and Simon are officially boyfriend and girlfriend. Bindi even brought in some furry friends. A beagle named Mocha and a dutch bunny named Charcoal. Envy did not get a cat because she was afraid that Siss would blow up in fear. Eventually the house was done. Envy and Simon were standing next to a ribbon that is in front of the door. Everyone else is standing in front as if a grand opening ceremony was taking place.

“You do the honors, Envy.” Annabel said as she handed Envy a giant pair of scissors.

“Oh? Um, thanks.” Envy said. She then made an announcement to everyone. “Twelve days ago, our home was destroyed by the Old One’s Army, but we were able to recover from the fight. Sure, it may have been bad, but it also gave us a new opportunity to create an improved version. To all of those who helped us reach this goal, thank you.” Siss, Bonnie, and Sombra cheered.

“Wooooooo!” Siss cheered.

“Go, girl!” Bonnie shouted.

“You got this, bestie!” Sombra shouted. Envy walked towards the ribbon, holding hands with Simon.

“Nervous?” Simon asked.

“Not at all, babe. Not at all.” Envy said. They both turn around with the scissors ready to cut the ribbon. “As leader of the Darkrune Defenders,” Envy said.

“And as the former prince of the Deep Dark,” Simon said.

“We declare this home, open!” Both of them say as they cut the ribbon. Everyone cheers. Haydn double jumps up with a cloud in a bottle and kisses Sombra on the cheek. Sombra’s face glows bright pink and looks at Haydn. Haydn chuckles as he blushes.

“Awww, come here you!” Sombra said as she picked him up and hugged him. Later, everyone went inside and had a party. There was a dance floor set up, some snacks, and a lot of things. Throughout the course of the party, she noticed Bonnie has been acting very strange. In fact, her, Siss, Sombra, Haydn, Simon, and even herself have been feeling strange for the past 2 weeks. Ever since they fought Deerclops back in the snow biome, they’ve all been having strange dreams, hallucinations, and even hearing voices and whispers in their heads. Envy has had strange dreams before, but this time, they were starting to become more frequent. Bonnie walks out through the back door.

“What’s wrong Envy?” Simon asked, concerned.

“Wait here.” Envy said. She then runs after Bonnie. Meanwhile, Sombra is sitting at the table with Haydn, having drinks. Sombra gets an unsettling feeling as if she is being watched. Haydn notices her discomfort.

“Sombra, are you ok?” Haydn asked. Sombra then heard a distorted demonic voice.

“Look at yourself. Weak! Useless!” The voice said. Sombra looks around her, panicking.

“Sombra?” Haydn said in a concerned voice. Just then, he heard a voice whispering to him from a nearby room. He walks over to check it out. Siss was breaking out on the dance floor with Dolgrim. When she looked up however, the scene briefly changed to a lab room as her vision blinked. Siss stopped dancing as she noticed the change. She then heard a whisper behind her. She turned around, but there was no one there. Siss looked to her right and saw a metal door down the hall that was definitely not there before. She walked towards it. Simon is still standing there on the dance floor all confused. Just then, a memory comes back to him. In the memory, his mother is walking away from him while an attack of some sort was happening outside the room.

“Stay here.” she said “Don’t let them find you…” Some otherworldly soldiers then march in behind her with guns and shoot her down. Simon’s younger self watched as his mother died.

“Mother!” he cried. Back in reality, Simon was welling up with tears. He then fell to his knees and went into a seizure. Meanwhile, Envy sees Bonnie just staring off into the distance.

“Bonnie, can you hear me?” Envy asked, but no response. “Bonnie?”

“Someone is calling for me.” Bonnie said.

“What are you talking about? Who’s calling you?” Envy asked.

“Him, Envy. The old man. He’s begging to be free. Free from his master. The answers are in there…” Just then, she sees a shadowy figure with white glowing eyes staring back at her in the distance. The figure disappears. Bonnie anxiously steps back.

“What, Bonnie?” Envy asked.

“Those eyes…dark…so dark!” Bonnie starts shivering in fear.

“Bonnie, what did you see?” Envy asked again. Bonnie looks at Envy, but she instead sees the same figure.

“Get away from me, you creepy ghost!” Bonnie yelled and then ran away in fear.

“Bonnie!” Envy yelled. Just then, she noticed something white sticking out of the ground. She took out her nightmare pickaxe and started digging. Meanwhile in the house, Sombra was still panicking. She kept hearing her dimented voice echoing around her.

“Is this really what you want? Do your friends really care about you?” Sombra then sees a mirror and in the reflection is her, but with that same creepy face. The reflection then yells at her. “Come on, Sombra! Pay attention to me!”

“Leave me alone!” Sombra roared as she punched the mirror. Everyone stopped and took notice of the incident that just occured. Sombra then stared at her hand and started crying. The townspeople then turned to Simon, who was still having a seizure on the floor, groaning.

“...Bright……Very…….bright!...” Simon muttered. In his head, he sees a figure as bright as the sun with huge butterfly wings. The figure speaks to him.

“She is your enemy. Only you belong with the light.” The figure pulls out a glowing prism that shines into a flash of light. Back in reality, Simon’s body glows as he screams in agony. Everyone was terrified. They had no idea what was going on. As Haydn stepped in the dark room, he could see a familiar looking helmet on the ground. Its visor was shattered.

“What the?” Haydn said. Just then, a man limped out from the dark corner behind the helmet. He had cuts and bruises all over him. His armor was damaged as well.

“Why, Haydn?” the man spoke to him in a weak voice. “Why did you do that?”

“Just-Kon!?!?” Haydn cried.

“We could’ve gotten off the island in time, together. Why did you throw that gauntlet in there?” Just-Kon asked.

“Just-Kon, I had to! We were gonna die either way! They were going to trap us there!” Haydn said.

“Well guess what: We failed!” Just-Kon said before falling to the floor and withering into dust. Haydn runs out of the room and slams the door. Meanwhile, Siss was exploring through a metal corridor. There was machinery, flasks full of chemicals, and a crate of atomic bombs. Siss then saw a chair at the end of the corridor. There was someone sitting in it. Siss walked over to the chair and turned it around to find a body of herself restrained to a chair with her rib cage opened. In there was an atomic bomb. The corpse then woke up and screamed at her. Siss backed up and noticed that behind her is the same corpse, but on a surgery table, surrounded by two men in another room. One was wearing a wizard hat and a cape, and the other looked like a scientist.

“Are you sure this prototype will work?” the wizard asked.

“Yes, Master. I have a strong possibility that it will work.” the scientist said in a slightly robotic voice.

“Isn’t it a one use only?” the wizard asked.

“Wrong, actually. She won’t die whenever she explodes.” the scientist said. “Trust me, Master. She will become the ultimate weapon.” The window to the room suddenly went static and shut off. The room was really dark now. Siss was getting scared. Just then, the scientist’s voice spoke behind her.

“Leaving so soon, creation?” Siss turned around to see the massive scientist wearing a black and green mask on his mouth. The scientist reached his hand out to grab Siss. Siss screamed in pure terror. Bonnie ran inside and noticed all the commotion that happened.

“What the hell is going on?” she asked. Meanwhile, Envy found herself staring at a dragon skeleton with a knife stabbed into its rib cage. Envy stepped away from the skeleton with a mix of emotions as it reminded her of how exactly her mother died in front of her. She turned around and found corpses hanging in the trees. On one of those trees were the bodies of both her parents. That can’t be right. When her parents died, both of their- Envy was paralyzed with horror, confusion, and sadness. She turned around again and saw a hooded figure in the shadows. In their hand was a glowing red knife, stained with blood. The figure then looked at her with a creepy red smile.

“Wh…who are you? What the f**k are you!?” Envy screamed in a shaky voice. The figure then ran towards Envy, screaming like a maniac with the knife in the air. As they did so, the background flickered a bit, revealing fire everywhere. Envy fell back as she screamed. She opened her eyes and found that she was still alive. That skeleton, all those corpses, that man with the knife, and the fire was all a hallucination. Envy looked down at her hands. “What’s happening to me?” she asked herself before curling up into a ball and crying.
