this is a really helpful tutorial!! But i have one problem. When i select the brush it doesn't give me the option on the tool bar to select pressure. Could you help me?

Kintall In reply to Sancosity-The-Hybrid [2008-10-05 06:24:52 +0000 UTC]

hmm, well firstly you need a graphics tablet (with pressure senitivity capabilitys) plugged in and properly installed when you boot flash.
Alternately it may not be a graphics tablet that flash recognises (I have only tested it with Wacom tabets personlly, but for them i have had 100% compatability), or if you have flash prior to a certain version i dont know if it supports brush variation by pressure.

I hope that helps.

You also dont nessisarily have to do your linert in flash itself, you can vectorise inking youve done on paper or in another program, you basically just import it to stage just like the scetch but you then go to trace bitmap and vectorise it, if youre getting bad results, you can try making your lineart into a completely black or white (no greys/colours) bitmap (photoshop or even irfanview can both do it easily) beforehand and also playing with the settings in flash when you go to vecorise it, but for all that this method isnt anywhere near as good as doiing the inking streight in flash

Now this is a helpful tutorial... Great Job!

Forgive my ignorance, but, what the hell are furries? (I didn't understand any of your rant, though it sounded like you had some good points).

Ahh, lol funny you should ask, see normally when someone asks "what's a Furry/Furrie?" i say "well, first go to DA and search for anthro and you'll see". basically its a humanoid with animal parts, at the better end of the spectrum there are some good artists, and the worse end there are legions of bad drawings (usually on lined paper scanned in at massive rez, dunno why) of peoples "Fursonas" which in layman's terms means what they beleive they would/should/could look like.

They're the butt of a lot of jokes, sometimes fairly, sometimes not. often they're the target of hostility, which i think is a bit unfair. I mean they may be a bit odd (sometimes more than a bit) but they don't hurt anyone, they might make Big Bird awkward sometimes but that's about the end of it.

if you ever want to meet one, log on for a go of the online world of "Second Life" you'll get to meet them in a matter of minutes, though be warned they can sometimes be quite... intense

Kintall In reply to Srathra [2007-06-18 06:33:57 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I'm really not sure what the big deal is with
"OMG FURRIES!" perhaps a childhood of rescue rangers, bugs bunny, Talespin and ducktales desensitised (spelling?) me but i dunno, I just dont really see the problem, though i dont think most of the anti furries do either, i mean hell.. S&M fetishists and their activities result in hundreds of deaths a year, so far furries only result in some AMAZINGLY hard to explain carpet burn and a sports mascot who wont return your phone calls^^

lol and no its a dreadful tute, I havent made one before and I'm calling from my own self taught skills alone, flawed skills and insufficient knowledge do not a good tutorail make (yoda or old english)

i too have no anti-furry complex. I just thought i would point it out.

Kintall In reply to Srathra [2007-06-20 03:04:12 +0000 UTC]

fair enough, why?

I do mean it seriously, because i get the impression that a lot of people don't like furries simply because a lot of people don't like furries, and when it comes down to it they don't really have a reason,

I think people just don't think about things very much or very often, I mean i can understand why a lot of guys don't like Gay things, simply because on some level they find an accord with whatever part of themselves is, and feel threatened

Furries on the other hand, while i will admit there are quite a lot of them and probably more who like it that aren't openly so, the reaction wouldn't be as much people reacting to the furry part of themselves, and similarly feeling threatened by that aspect of themselves that exists and doesn't match with their present self image, or the self image they feel they need to show to their peers/friends/family etc

I mean I'm sure an aspect of it for a lot of people is the sexualisation of things that are recognisably Animal in nature, which is relatable to Bestiality but then not all pieces of Furry themed artwork are sexual in nature, so then the larger audience cannot be reacting to that alone

so then what is your reason? are you threatened by furries sine you may slightly or fully be one and being one openly in your current social group would be a bad thing, are you put off by the bestiality aspect? if so do the nonsexual pictures bother you as well? OR and i imagine this is about 60% of the anti furries, have you just not thought about it? keep in mind if you are just hating something or a group of people because everyone hates that group of people, that's the same attitude that is responsible for apartheid Nazism and a number of other very embarrassing parts of human history, so you'd want to hope you have a better reason than that^^

this question is open to anybody btw ^^

It's quite an awesome tutorial. Definitely of more than just simply "some use'.

If you're merely progressing at this level, just imagine how great you'd be later.

By the way, Step 12, hilarious.
