Voice Actor Chronicles - Episode 15 - Veronica TaylorMy first NY-based VAC pic in a while, for a woman who needs no introduction, but gets one anyhow, Veronica Taylor! Her characters on this one include: Tamara from Shaman King (top right), Amelia Tesla from Slayers (bottom right), Yuya Shiina from Samurai Deeper Kyo (bottom left), Jody Summer from F-Zero GP Legend (top) and of course, the ORIGINAL voice of Ash Ketchum (left), May (right) and Diglett (bottom) from Pokemon and carried such roles for about 8 years. Veronica's another NY-based voice actor I have a lot of respect for. She definitely shines above many others, and puts a lot of love and effort into every character I've heard her as. Not hearing her on Pokemon anymore still angers me to this day. Also, for some reason I completely forgot two other BIG roles she's had, including April O'Neal from the new TMNT cartoon, and Miyabi from Ninja Nonsense. Eh, either case I think this one turned out really well. I got to fool around with a bunch of different drawing styles, especially in the characters' faces. I'll be giving this to her at the upcoming NYAnimeFest.

I got to talk to her at AFO, and she nearly started crying over the fact that she got replaced as the voice for Ash.

Yeah, I talked to her after getting her autograph, since most fans were at the FMA VA tables.
She definitely teared up when she mentioned it.
I mean, to play a character for eight years, and suddenly be told, "So yeah, you're no longer Ash." has to have been a big blow.

Aw man...
I was planning on telling her and Racheal about how much support there's been for all of the old cast since the switch. Now I'm afraid of bringing up drama o_O;

I'm sure they'd be happy to hear about all the support, even if the subject is a bit touchy.
When I talked to her, she had just received the news not to long beforehand.
It's been many months, and she may not be as emotional as she was then.
I, myself, cant even bring myself to watch pokemon without the original cast, at all.
I'm a HUGE Slayers fan, it's my favourite anime, and to have pokemon with the same english cast was too perfect.
Seeing other people fail miserably at trying to imitate, just doesnt do it for me.

Stop going around to every single one of these and annoyingly exclaiming "OMG OMG WHY DIDN'T YOU DRAW THIS CHARACTER AAAAAAGH". I chose a certain number of characters, picked the ones that felt appropriate, and I did these pictures for VAs I WANTED to give something to/were going to conventions I was going to be at. Give it rest or I'll report you for spam.

I do VAC pics for voice actors I WANT to make one for, and they have to be going to a convention I'd be going to so I could give it to them. I don't care what voice actors you like, I don't care what characters you like, I don't care that you play Yu-Gi-Oh!, or your reasons FOR liking any of those things.

It's nothing against them personally.
It's just really weird not to have the same cast I grew up with.
I mean, from 5th grade, 'till I gratuated high school, I'm so used to the original cast.
The same thing happened to One Piece as well, didnt it?

Yes, but that's excusable because the old One Piece dub was BEYOND atrocious. The new cast for that show is amazing.

To be fair, there were some (OK, maybe two) who were good actors but just had no choice but to go in the direction 4Kids wanted, and this picture is evidence that you think similarly.

I heard David Moo was cast as Sanji, and automatically couldnt bring myself to watch it.
Not after hearing him in Slayers, butchering one of my favourite characters. xD;

I'm still not sure whether or not I'll have the chance to attend the con (I'm waiting for my friend to respond to a private message, about my money issue).
But anyway, I don't think Veronica would mind talking about the VA switch. Yes, it's a very controversial and upsetting subject, but I'm sure that by now she would be able talk with people about it. She *should* be able to handle it by now. I know that....if/when I go, I'll most likely bring up the switch some way or another (probably by accident).
But yeah, going back to how the switch happened, I just wanted to say.....I'm not sure if it was 4Kids' fault. I honestly don't think there was anything 4Kids could've done to prevent this from happening (except maybe change the non-compete clause in the VAs' contracts or something).
Still, the whole contracts excuse (being the reason Pokemon USA and TAJ says they were replaced) just leaves me baffled, because - for one thing, the original VAs are actually freelance which means they should be able to work for any company they want.
I have a feeling it might be TAJ Productions fault that the VAs were replaced.
Especially after the awful way Larry (president of the company) treated 2 SOVA members, when they called him one time. He was very unprofessional, and said bad things about the original VAs (calling them liars, and stuff).
Also, during one of those phone calls, he said awful things about Veronica.

I think Maddie made a post sometime on Bulbagarden, stating that Larry used to like the original VAs (this was back during the time 4Kids was using TAJ Productions stuido - during seasons 1 through 5 I think).
However, clearly, something must've happened between Larry and the company 4Kids at some point, otherwise he wouldn't hate the VAs like that.
Also, for a while, Kayzie Rogers and Jimmy Zoppi were working on both - the Pokemon USA dub and for 4Kids, because they were using psuedonyms (fake names). At some point, 4Kids found out about this and fired them.
But since those 2 previous 4Kids VAs were working for Pokemon USA, they must've known about the "offer" to work on Mastermind/Season 9. My theory is that after Pokemon USA received the licensing for the anime, Larry was probably friends with those guys. So he went and told them about it, but chose NOT to tell the original VAs (which could explain why the VAs were never approached or offered anything).....

Actually, in her panel later that day, a kid dressed as Ash asked her about being replaced.
She got emotional there as well.
The interviewer actually had to tell the audience not to press her on the subject.
But that was a long time ago.
