Description
Hey all! Just felt like making a little tutorial today. Partly for your benefit...Partly for mine! I scoured my brain for all kinds of methods for clothing winged characters...And here's what I came up with. The bright blue areas on the back, by the way, are where the base of the wings would go. If you couldn't tell. Light bluegreen-ish is clothing.
Remember your clasps, ties, zippers, et cetera! And remember, if your character is moving and flying around a lot (or fighting), go with something sturdy in connections...Else we may just have wardrobe malfunctions.
Enjoy!

its not one of those things that many people do think on, like everyone watches anime shows and manga's and most would be like "Wow she's hot" while im here thinking "wait.....she's wearing clothes with wings on her back? how'd she get dressed?!"
at least this peice of your work gives my brain some peace "huh....yea i guess that would be implemented if wings were in the way. good enough for me"

Question; what if the wings are super-thin? Could there be a case for slightly narrower holes?

Potentially, so long as you take into consideration how they would put the garment on and take it off! You must keep in mind how the wing can move/bend and where - take into account not only the size and shape as a whole, but also comfort. Thin wings especially would be more fragile in most cases, so you'd especially want to take that into account! Don't wanna break 'em just by putting on your shirt, eh?
That's the whole key to creating an outfit for someone with wings.

Wing durability is also a factor, so could something thin be made of especially strong and flexible material. The character I'm working on's species had to adapt to a ferociously harsh environment, so it was durability or die.

I'm actually not drawing a humanoid though, I'm redrawing an old dragon character of mine. I looked up clothes for winged characters because most dragons are gliders. I could never figure it out.

These are some neat ideas! Recently came up with a tentative design for a winged bug-like character, and this could be very helpful!

I find this really useful!
Its nice for it shows outfit ideas and designs that could be possibly used for characers or people with wings of some sorts. This sometimes is a issue with some artists who forget this fact and drawn normal clothes on them, and all I can think is,"How are they showing dem wings yo."

Haha yeah totally. For the longest time I didn't even think about it! But once I started getting better at wings and how they worked, I realized...They take up a heck of a lot of room on the back! You can't just shove them through random holes in clothing, no. You need a system!
Thanks for the comment and such. I'm glad you like it.
