You should be able to do gradients on all Paints! Try it out and see if it works.

AHA!
But how do you get them to fit in the round shapes like on the kirin?

Oh...ok, well, this might be difficult to explain without pictures to. Like, the curves under the hair, the darkest place under there? I color that in, usually in red, and leave everything else white. I create the gradient on another Paint, and re-size it so it is about the same size as the area I want it to appear in. Then, I make the canvas with the gradient big, about double the size of the kirin picture, so I can move it around and not get anything cut off. The gradient needs to stay the size you want it, not as big as the canvas or it won't gradient right. I paste the kirin picture on that canvas. Now, to put the gradient where it needs to be, the red is in the way. I go over to the toolbar, and there is a box to select that makes the image transparent. However, that makes to white transparent! So, RIGHT click on the same red color, in the color box, now the red should disappear and the white should be solid. Move the picture of the kirin until the gradient is in the right place, and there you have it! Do the same procedure with however big or small the the gradient area you need.
If you need pictures, I'll whip up another tutorial and have it up this afternoon It's no problem!
