Description
Zeus: Registered American Pit Bull Terrier. CKC Certified Good Neighbor Dog.Therapy Dog. My friend and loyal companion; friend to all critters, two – legged or four.
He is enjoying the water and seems to be inviting me to join him in a swim. I am standing in the marsh water as deep as my boot tops will allow. It was a very hot day and he actually doesn't do well in hot weather. Zeus handles the cold winters much better. I do believe his 'black coat' draws the heat. LARGE VIEW BEST- Double click image.

You are right!!!! They are sooo much fun and he provides at least several laughs per day for me.
The mosquitoes bother the poor guy something awful and he does suffer in the heat. He is great in the winter and can take extremely cold weather. I have never had a dog who was attacked by mosquitoes the way he is. Perhaps it is his black coat. Lexy on the other hand, isn't bothered even a little bit by them, so I think it just may be the color of his coat.
Thanks for the and your comment.

I love this shot of Zeus! He looks so happy and like he's having fun in the water; and the photo itself, the colors & clarity are great!
We always see pictures of Zeus, but none of you! *hint hint*

I am really happy that you do like this picture of Zeus. He is by nature a happy dog and ready to play at any moment, but at the same time he takes his hunting for me very seriously. He is so much fun and a great companion.
"I got the hint!" Maybe soon, but for me, Zeus is much more fun.

By "hunt", you know that he is hunting for subjects for me. He did round up a frog for me and darned if I didn't lose it when I picked it up. It managed to leap out of my hand into the water.

Thank you so much.
This breed is so misunderstood and it is the fault of man, the unscrupulous breeders who are not breeding true to type and maintaining the qualities that made this breed the most popular dog breed from the late 1800's through to around 1926, and earned this breed the name of "Nannys Dog" simply because it was truly reliable with children and people friendly. Zeus, and I imagine all Pit Bulls are marvelous trackers, plus can hold a point until you relieve them. I would say that Zeus exhibits the traits of the original Bull Terrier (Pit) that was so famous in yesteryear. As a therapy dog...I don't think Zeus can be surpassed. He has a natural affinity to children and can sense distress and of course fear. He has a strong protective quality in-as-much, no harm would befall a child while it is 'his watch'. There are four cases amongst others that stand out with Zeus, and that is, "he brought four children out of a traumatized world- a silent world for them." One child in particular had never spoken a word for three years...the child was four. When he and his sister (also traumatize, and a brain injury),were brought to me, I was informed they were terrified of dogs and of course my Pit Bulls were absolutely unacceptable. The boy in particular screamed loud enough to split your eardrums and immediately bolted for a corner. Zeus calmly followed him and sat in front of him. Each time the little fellow bolted, Zeus followed him until the child couldn't find a place where the dog wasn't. Needless to say I was having a little difficulty with 'the powers to be' but did manage them thankfully. Finally the child sat on a couch, with Zeus sitting beside him. All was good. Finally the officials left and Zeus and I were free to go to work. I to all intent and purpose seemed to be ignoring the wee fellow and found things to do while monitoring the situation. Low and behold within an hour I was sure I heard a voice; and I had. I looked around the corner and to my relief, there was the wee boy with his arms tightly about Zeus's neck talking to him. Hmm. This was a boy who couldn't talk!...a lost boy. Zeus on his part was attentive and relaxed. Soon I heard this little boy count to 100...sheesh...he is only four and there was no hesitation or fault in his counting. When I stepped out to let him know that I knew he could talk, he simply smiled at me and continued to talk to Zeus. I might add, Zeus divided his time between the little boy and his sister and would remain in their room in the evening until they were fast asleep before returning to me. That is just one example of what Zeus can and did do for children. I am sure if more of these dogs, the 'American Pit Bull Terrier' were utilized in this field they would soon dispel the fear and unfair bias and threat of extinction they face.
Like the human animal, "they need education...they need to go to school and learn their place in society and the home. Any problems with any breed stem from the ignorance of their owners and 'greed'.
You talk in the past tense of Maggie. Do you no longer have her??? If she was the sweet bully type it would have been nice and rewarding for her and you.
It is too bad that more Pit Bulls aren't used in therapy or for sniffing drugs. I know from Zeus, that he has a keen sense of smell and can distinguish between what I am looking for and scents that are about.
Again, thanks for the comment, I appreciated it. Joyce

That was a mighty long reply Indeed, to most of it. lol And I'm afraid Maggie is no longer alive. She lived to 15, though. So we got to spend a lot of time with her.

It sounds like Maggie had a very good life and that makes me happy. I wish more of these beautiful dogs could share homes with a person like you.

Thanks Glen!
Zeus had been out swimming around in the middle and had just come back toward me. He actually seemed to want me to come back out with him. As it was, I was standing in the marsh with water up to my boot tops. He was in his glory.
As a rule he doesn't create noise or splash around but it was so hot that day that I guess he felt he needed some relief.
So thank you again for the kind comment and fave...I do appreciate both so much. Joyce
