That's a nice tutorial but i have a question, how do you set up the picture to be a texture?

Just copy and paste it into the new layer, you don't need to do anything to the texture to prep it for this!

You can paste into a new layer, but this is really Photoshop territory. In Painter X I'd recommend playing with the Paper Texture feature that is in either the Canvas menu or the Texture Adjustments menu. Or make a new layer and swirl some thick stucco brushes or 'asto brushes on a transparent layer.

Sorry I don't use that program.... but typically you find your own textures yourself! Just search for "textures" here on Da, or check out my ~kittonstock stock gallery if you want... then you copy them and "paste" them into a new layer in your image. Hope that helps, but I can't really troubleshoot because I have never used that program!

People use different sites to download them. Feel free to use any off my stock account ~kittonstock or else search for it in the dA search function. Does that help? Or were you asking something else?

so does a deeper color actually "bother" the image less? I have no scanner right now, so i'm having to learn how to do pure photoshop, and my pictures look so bland without the scanned paper texture T_T

i think this person is asking whether a more vibrant coloured texture would not affect the color of the original piece as much as a pale colored texture would.
looking at your tutorial i would ask the same thing, since the paler pink tone seems to change the color of the original piece more than the deeper pink did.
um, did you understand that?? i really hope you would answer this.

kitton In reply to hayakatsu [2008-12-08 08:39:26 +0000 UTC]
I think it has more to do with the tone of the colour you put overtop than the brightness. Like if most of your colours are warm, than applying a warm colour probably has less of an effect whether or not its brighter or higher opacity than a cool colour would?

I'd always wondered about textures.
tried them once and failed so miserably, kekeke.
