Description Finally I have got some photos of these scars healed. Wiring Diagram and Endless Knot both done by the amazing Timb Wilton.
You can see how both scars healed differently. I love the way they have turned out.

If you look through my other photos you will find both of these scars freshly done.

If you have any questions, happy to try and answer them.

funny how DA has both a self mutilation ban Β and a scarification section

Exillior In reply to RobertRijkers [2013-10-28 19:23:29 +0000 UTC]

Scarification is not self harm. It's a professionally done tattoo and in this sense, if you think that it corresponds in some way to self mutilation, all body modifications would instantly be the same.

RobertRijkers In reply to Exillior [2013-10-28 20:01:45 +0000 UTC]

I know the process and it's culture.... Β  and really how is it a tattoo? there is no ink involved,

Β but as terminology goes I'll stick to the medical terminology of (self)mutilation and indeed cutting wounds into your skin to be healed with scartissue or poking holes into yourself from 2mm to 30cm... yea I'll consider them that as well whatever the result or intentions are. Β

Don't get me wrong I'm not opposed to it and can admire bodyart (I do have tattoos as well), but I can be honest about it and call it what it is without having to go all politically correct about it in order to find some extra social acceptance Β

Exillior In reply to RobertRijkers [2013-10-28 20:09:15 +0000 UTC]

A tattoo means literally a "mark". There are many kinds of tattoos and ink tattoos are one kind - scarification tattoos are another. There are also non-permanent tattoos, e.g. henna. I am sure that is not new to you. Scarifications are done for similar reasons as other kinds of tattoos.

To inject your skin with a foreign body in the hopes of forever marking it is also technically mutilation - although again we call it modification. If anything, ink tattoos are more mutilating and invasive because you're using a foreign substance.

At the end of the day, you can call it what you want, but as I pointed out, all body modifications are altering the body - and hence if you dub one "mutilation", you'll have to dub them all the same. And if we recognise ink tattoos to be a legitimate form of art, then the same goes for all tattoos.

I don't much care about political correctness nor do I have the need to seek social acceptance, since at the end of the day I do not have any body mods and never will. However, one does have to be clear on what one is looking at. And self harm this is not. To identify it as such is damaging to people that have/do self-harm.

May I ask why you chose scarification over tatto for some of them and not for the others ? Or maybe it's personal ?

I love the way the knot healed! Both are beautiful but the knot is my favorite <3 what was the process like for you? was it almost unbearable or did you go into kind of like a 'high endorphin, barely feel a thing, self preservation mode' after the first few cuts?

TheLibMonster [2013-10-25 15:19:38 +0000 UTC]

Love the diagram! It looks excellent on you. For whatever reason, I really like how it scarred (if thats what you call it) because it's raised, but not an ugly maroon or deep violet color. You're tats are amazing too, the colors are perfect compliments to each other.

African tribes did this like way back in the day. It's like when Asian countries get the tattoos. It sets you apart from the others. Not satanic.
