Description
Finally I have got some photos of these scars healed. Wiring Diagram and Endless Knot both done by the amazing Timb Wilton. You can see how both scars healed differently. I love the way they have turned out.
If you look through my other photos you will find both of these scars freshly done.
If you have any questions, happy to try and answer them.

Very special. Looks really neat. Reminds me of some.. New space movie. Everyone has these sort of "tattoos" too.
Also! It's kind of funny because I've thought about getting a tattoo someday in the future and mine should include the endless knot and a wiring diagram too. soooo xD!

This looks really cool, though I am honestly not that big in the Wiring Diagram one, the Endless Knot looks stunning!
I would have stuck with just the Endless Knot to be honest, I think when done right this kind of scarification looks beautiful, but the Wiring just looks a little... plain... or tacky if that makes sense.
Never the less, you where probably brave to get this done, good on you, and for those who disagree, I really don't see how this differed from tattoos or piercings.

It is quite a unique process and you need to make sure you've got a talented hand doing the work. Mine was quite painful but definitely worth it; it's created essentially the same way all scars are created, just in a highly controlled environment. Mine took several sessions where first the artist did the base cut, then the details, then a few more cutting sessions to ensure the scarring formed evenly. It's not something one should get done if they have a low pain tolerance with things like tattoos or piercings. But it really is beautiful and unique when it's finished.

I don't think I'd ever be able to get this done personally, but I think it's an awesome type of body modification. The knot one really did turn out beautifully; it looks great between the two dragon tattoos.
Congrats on the DD!

reminds me of an old chapter of "Birds of Prey", where Brianiac took over Barbara Gordan's/ Oracle's mind. when it was all over a part of him still remained in her, and a part of her skin looked like that, except it was glowing green.Β

Just when I thought tattoos & piercings were dangerous & a health hazard.
I wouldn't mind so much if it was special effects makeup but to have something permanently etched into your skin in this fashion, is a accident just waiting to happen. It's not only dangerous it's stupid!
I know I don't have the right to tell you how to live or what to do with yourself. But for me, this I think crossed over from "trying to tell you want to do" to "FOR THE LOVE GOD I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU NOT KILL YOURSELF!"
You know you could actually lose all sense of taste in your mouth if you got your tong pierced wrong, You don't have like skilled doctor do this (& I don't think it would be medically ethical) you could be cut to deep & bleed out!

You have to be a skilled person to do this to begin with. The body artist who does this has to have certifications and papers to do it properly, safely, and in a clean environment. Β Go to some guy's basement and you definitely run a heavier risk of this happening and infection as well.Β
Getting your wisdom teeth removed, you run the same risk. You get it done by by a skilled, certified and licensed dentist you still run the risk of having infections, dry socket, or even having some paralyzing affect in your lip. Same thing with surgery, you can DIE while getting surgery. So, really, it's about the same. Go to a skilled, licensed person and run less chances of getting infections or something going wrong. Going to a back alley to get an sort of procedure done and the chances are much more of something bad happening.Β

we have cloths for decorating, this is more like graffiti, vandalism, & destruction of property!
I mean you wouldn't exactly call me a artist honestly if I punch you in face to have a black eye & call it festive. You'd call me jerk ! (or worse)
it's like trying cover the giant hole in the wall that Koolaid man made when bursted in with a just big enough painting, sure the art looks nice but THERE IS A HOLE IN THE WALL!
& the sad thing is that there are plenty of ways to "decorate" yourself does don't involve physical pain! I'm not much of prude & I try not to judge, but this doesn't sound like remotely like a good idea.

Exillior In reply to StrandedGeek [2013-10-25 12:01:15 +0000 UTC]
First of all, as explained by others before me, any procedure carries a risk of infection - tattoos, piercings, bursting a pimple, lancing an abscess, going for surgery - the list is endless. However, in all those cases, similar principles apply: they have to be done in a safe environment, by somebody who is trained to do it safely and cleanly, on healthy individuals, who know how to take care of themselves afterwards.
Secondly, to the view that this is vandalism and destruction of property, on par with you punching somebody's face: punching somebody is assault, not destruction of property. It is done without consent. In this scenario, the young lady has consented to the tattoo - it is therefore not assault. People are not property - they are beings and are responsible for the care of their own body. Do you cut your hair, trim your nails, and so on? You are already "vandalising" your property, to use your phrase.
Finally, "the sad thing" of there being "plenty of ways to decorate oneself that don't involve physical pain" - pain is not an evil thing to some. There is research that endorphins are generally released during procedures like scarification - these generally make people feel good. Clearly the body is biologically programmed to respond positively to some painful stimuli.
None of this is done with an intent to harm themselves. The fact that this lady had hers done professionally and safely is in itself an indication of that.
TL;DR: We all do different modifications to our appearances, some go to different extremes.

Dude, calm down! It's different if you punch me in the eye or I do something artistically destructive to myself. Hell yes I'd call you a jerk for that.Β
Some people consider graffiti to be art, too, yanno. I do!! Some of it. Some of it not so much. Β
Everybody's got their own thing, and you know what the best part is? Nobody's pushing their thing on you. This person decided that her self expression should take the form of scarification and tattoos. She did it, she's happy in her skin. No pain no stain. And she's not coming to your house to demand you do the same.
I mean, maybe you cut your hair in ways I don't like. Isn't that a form of destruction of your body too? And are you over here telling me to do the same? Nope. No more than I'm over here with my one (beloved) tattoo, trying to make you get one as well. To each their own. And if you don't like the art on this person's body then... well. Check this out - You're on a site with literally millions of other pieces of art to look at. So go look at those!
It doesn't sound remotely like a good idea to you... but it sounded like a great idea to this lovely lady in the photo. Live and let live, dude. Live and let live.

Actually I know a girl who had scarification done who did self-harm herself and she has been recovered for awhile. To her is was more liberating than anything. She felt that because she overcame it that only made her choice to get it stronger. People who have self harmed usually go through life finding their scars to be hideous but this can be a way as finally seeing them as something more than that. I don't really think you should feel insulted by what other people do to their bodies. The lady here probably has a good reason behind it and maybe she doesn't but that's her choice. I have self-harmed and I would like to get scarification done for something that helped me through it. It's a matter of opinion I guess.

I have to say I think it's a little silly to create insult out of something that wasn't one, if it does bother you then that's certainly fair but you're not (to my knowledge) being forced to see it).
Granted, I'd never do that to myself, I have plenty of scars, none of which are aesthetic in nature, and while I'm very proud of mine, and wouldn't add anything to them artificially, I can certainly appreciate the beauty of what Kittyelixir has/had done.

I have scars from falls and accidents - a bicycle stand went into my leg, for example, when I was a child, and left a large gash - but I would never pull them out to compare to yours. Even that would be insensitive.

body art and self-harm are not the same. sex and rape are not the same. martial arts and assault are not the same. pumpkin carving and murdering someone with a pumpkin carver is not the same.
so sorry you had to deal with morons, but that's part of life. it's not a special unique experience that only you have had. holding it against the world doesn't make you any better.

I would just like to say, I am well aware of the fact that I am no one special. I know I'm not better than anyone else.
So please, can we just agree not to try and insult each other anymore?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
EngineMeister In reply to glambert177 [2013-10-25 06:27:51 +0000 UTC]
actually, i genuinely don't care you said something negative about the picture. my point was only relative to that while they use the same basic principles, such body art does not exist for the purpose of degrading self-harm, ergo you really shouldn't take it as an insult based solely on that people do it.
though, you are fairly justified in taking offense from people who say all scars are one in the same. a person who cuts themself on accident is not the same as a person who cuts themself for art and neither are the same as people who cuts themself for the variety of other reasons that exist. etc.
very well.

I have no idea what to make of this. It does seem like a cool idea and it is a beautiful design, but the concept of cutting your own skin for it is just something I find very disturbing. People endure, stress and exhaust and sometimes physical pain for their love for art, this however is literally taking it to a whole different level, dangerous at some point too.Β
The progress pictures are also insanely horrifying, to some degree beautiful but primarily very very awful. The manner in which the upper scar sticks out sends chills down my spine, it is literally sticking out of your own skin. I cannot say I love it because of how much this frightens me, and I sincerely hope you had an anesthetic when this was put on you. But I do not hate it because unlike most modern art this actually expresses a true message of dedication and love for what you like, it just leaves me in the middle of both.

It's fascinating how the two patterns healed so differently. Was there some difference in the method, or is that just the difference between upper and lower abdominal skin?
