- Copic airbrush system

............................................

...another tutorial [on marker techniques]

______________________

I have been working on this tutorial for the last 4 weeks, I think; on and off. Phew, and I am really happy that I managed to finish it. It took me some time to compile it all.

I wanted to have it done much earlier but I couldn't for various reasons. Now I can work on some other stuff again. ^^

You can download the tutorial if you want. I hope it's helpful and I didn't talk any gibberish.

Be careful though, the filesize is huge! ^^°

Feedback is always appreciated! ^^

Wow it must have taken a lot of time and effort to this tutoralO.O And it's really helpful, thank you for making it I just wish I had more markers... But I'm sure I can find good use to them with this tutorial^w^

It has indeed, but I hope it was worth it. You know, it doesn't matter how many markers you have, the techniques are the same.

The only question I really have with markers is what is the best way to scan them in? Like...scanner settings...

And then what filters, modes, adjustments to we fiddle with in photoshop? I've seen a lot of marker tutorials, but no one ever tried making a tut on how to display it online. You seem to know what you're doing. Might you be interested in making one?

You have clear explanations and I love the color blocks you added to the side to give us a good idea of what colors blend well. Good tut.

KiwiChameleon In reply to Rina-ran [2009-12-15 22:43:17 +0000 UTC]

I was actually thinking of making a tutorial about how to scan an image properly since a lot of people seem to have difficulties there. The problem is that the scanner doesn't work like the human eye, hence colours get distorted (scanners hate red for some reason) or not picked up at all. Simply putting a picture on the glass and scanning it won't work to get a good result.
The first thing you do even before you scan is to adjust the brightness levels (like "shadows", "mid-tones" and "highlight"). I always scan the image slightly darker than it is. This way I can even pick up the light colours. I usually pull down the adjustment for "shadow" (this includes blacks and darker colours). I do the same with the "mid-tones" and "highlights" though not as much. Basically you should be happy with the colour intensity on screen (taking in mind a calibrated screen). After that is done you simply scan the picture. For the next step I use Photoshop to adjust single colours (you can find it under "image" > "adjustment" > "replace colour"; it can be a bit tricky at first). It took me some time to figure it out but for now I am reasonably happy with the outcome.
I don't use any filters or fiddle around when I scan a picture. ...unless there are some spots that need to be cleaned up.

Btw, thanks for your comment.

No problem. Thank for you for the small scanning explaination. I've been doing more Copic art lately so I have plenty to fool around with the scanner.

Much appreciated.

You should be able to get the Frisket film from any good art shop. I bought the Copic airbrush in the London Graphic Centre.

all the shading techniques... im so confused. like im making this line art and i want to shade it (mind u, im using colored pencils) but i dont understand...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KiwiChameleon In reply to VICIOUSkittyLOL [2009-08-08 22:18:40 +0000 UTC]

Couloured pencils are a tad different to markers. Shading can be simple though, but it needs a bit of practice.
