competition entry - my entry for the contest ending July 27. This is a challenge to take a well used image and to make a manip that is both "DE-cliched" and surreal.I wanted to make an image that was unusual, surreal and even striking, but I wanted to keep the beauty and the emotion in the base photo. I know the concept of bottling up your dreams and hopes is pretty much a cliché, but I hope the actual way I illustrated this theme is not.
The more obvious changes I’ve made to the bases include the elven ear, the colour and the reflections. However there are some less obvious changes. For example I’ve reshaped the base of the dress to mould it into the bowl of the vase, and I’ve added spots of colour, highlights and distortions.

This is VERY cool. I've never the reflections in the glass are very convincing. No worries, it's cliche-free.

Thanks muchly. I think Ihave a very sideways imagination - I often come up with pretty odd ideas and most of them are rubbish. I'm quite pleased with this one tho'

Thanks muchly. It was one of the easier pics to make. I think taking my own photo for the background meant I got just what I wanted so I didn't have to spend a couple of days just on the background

Digital cameras are so amazing ... you don't have to pay for your films to be developed so you can take SOOOOOOOO many pics

I had one a long time ago, but it pretty much doesn't work anymore, and it's probably so outdated that it's worthless these days lol.

I love the distortion in this, it adds to the depth and volume of the piece so much. Very de-cliched and the color scheme is very striking.
