From a pose by the wonderful Valentine.

This is the second a stand alone picture of an individual figure from my much larger Doaine Sidh image [link] , - my interpretation of the daoine sídhe, pronounced deena shee. The daoine sídhe are fairy races under the hollow hills, the people of the mounds. For more information on the sídhe please see the original pic. The idea of a sídhe in rags wielding bone weapons is all my own imagination but to me it fits the primitive and wild nature of some of the stories.

Thankyou so much. I am supporting the contest - I'm just sorry I am not in a position to offer any prizes I've already sent in one entry [link] and I am hard at work on the second one right now

Many, many thanks. I liked the background I found, thats a compromise between photorealism and abstract. The tree realyl works
To be honest it's much less complex than the Carly as sidhe pic

Beauty is a simple thing
The mixture of realism and the surreal back is very promising. Do try it more!

I will, but I will also keep doing the photorealism stuff. It's something not a lot of other people do, and it has it's own kind of power as well. But it's good to have more than one style to play with

Aranict In reply to kiwidoc [2009-09-05 22:23:19 +0000 UTC]

It good ro find your style. realism is nice, but in needs a touch of fantasy

kiwidoc In reply to Aranict [2009-09-05 22:52:35 +0000 UTC]

I have a slightly different opnion about what makes fantasy - I like to see characters like elves who have the features of elves but are set in realistic backgrounds. It's just me - the way i like to work.

I think some of my Farseer pics will be semiabstract backgrounds now I need to work on making my own backgrounds

Aranict In reply to kiwidoc [2009-09-06 18:12:51 +0000 UTC]

I'll tell you a nice tip. Use multiple abstract backgrounds , to different opacity and layer types and you may get a wonderful image. Like first- forest. Second- mist. Third- clouds. You get the idea

kiwidoc In reply to Aranict [2009-09-06 20:08:18 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean - thats how I got the background in my Yavanna pic - real branches and trees, plus a couple of other real life textures overlaid on top then lots of playin gwith different styles of layer and blurring.

Very cool background selection once again! and I love how the tree blends into the back at the bottom, as opposed to the original. It makes it stand on the same plane as the figure

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kiwidoc In reply to Apheline [2009-09-03 14:14:41 +0000 UTC]

woohoo - you noticed I thought I needed to do that to make it feel right, even if it is such a stylised tree. I reckoned nobody would actually spot the change, they'd just subconsciously feel better about the composition.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Apheline In reply to kiwidoc [2009-09-03 14:17:10 +0000 UTC]

Aww, well, it's a very important change even if no one else notices it really helps with the picture! !

kiwidoc In reply to Apheline [2009-09-03 15:03:49 +0000 UTC]

Small things can make a huge difference! The rays of light I painted in an overlay are only at 10% opacity - but they still make a difference!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Apheline In reply to kiwidoc [2009-09-03 16:43:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! Although that one I didn't notice til you just mentioned it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kiwidoc In reply to Apheline [2009-09-03 18:37:57 +0000 UTC]

That just means I got it right. I was trying to get it to look as though the very strong light and shadow on the figure was ok, without doing anything obvious
